Is Assassin's Creed 3 Set During The American Revolution?

UPDATE: It's official. Assassin's Creed 3 is set during the American Revolution. You can tell from the officially released Assassin's Creed 3 box art.

Assassin's Creed 3 may take place during the American Revolution if you believe this alleged leaked image. A Best Buy employee sent this image of an assassin behind an American flag with 13 stars to Kotaku. The assassin in the image may be a Native American judging by the arrows. Ubisoft is set to make a major Assassin's Creed 3 announcement on Monday, March 5th.

As of now, this image has not been confirmed as official or even concept art.  We do know the Assassin's Creed 3 release date though.

Do you want Assassin's Creed 3 to take place in America?

They've been building Desmond into the ultimate Assassin. How can you do this without having learned from an ancestor who is actually one of the REAL ultimate Assassins- the Ninjas? It really needs to be in Japan... but whatever happens, happens, the series is outstanding wherever it is set, and AC3 will just expand on how each title has gotten progressively better. I'm adoring Revelations right now.

Well anyone should've seen this coming with the end of Revelations, and the location of the grand temple being set in the New England area. Besides we won't exclusively just be playing this Assassin, Desmond will be a major player as well.

Personally, I'm just happy Native Americans are finally getting a decent representation in video games. Give me a list of games featuring Natives and/or the American Revolution. Yep. Hardly any. I may stand corrected, but I don't think I will be. Ubisoft's goal with the AC series is to take players in areas that aren't normally covered in gaming.

I really hope Assassins Creed doesn't get any more modern, because then it just wont be Assassins Creed, it would be a sandbox third person shooter, or Red Dead Redemption.

I want a western AC with RDR style gameplay. Something like this: http://cache.gawkerassets.com/ assets/images/9/2011/06/assass in_by_tomx.jpg

Also would like to see Japan setting. And you have to realize this game can be taken sooo many different ways. It isn't going to end with Desmond. I can promise you that. And that French Revolution idea was great too Gamejawa!

It would be interesting I guess, but I agree with a lot of what has already been said. I dont see much free running opertunities, as the housing was not that advanced in that era. I guess that they could possibly have us running through the trees, which would be kinda neat. also, I think the french revolution would be a great setting, much more intersting.

I was hoping for Victorian England. I've never really thought AC would do well in an early american period, since it lacks large buildings and things like that. Sure there are trees and things, But I think they could do better.

don't know if its legit, could be fan art. I don't understand why people want the American Revolution? I am a history major and I have never found the American Revolution all that fascinating. could someone help me out here and explain the appeal of an assassins game during this time?

I like the Native American twist! It make a lot of sense to use a person who is one with the land and worships a Eagle. I bet his name will be something like Dyami which is Native American for Eagle or something like that.

Id rather see it take place in Japan and have a Ninja or Samurai as the hero

Not that I wouldn't buy this game the second it came out, but I would still believe Egypt to be the front runner for the next game honestly. Guess I we will find out soon enough. Either way it will destroy expectations like usual.
