UPDATE: It's official. Assassin's Creed 3 is set during the American Revolution. You can tell from the officially released Assassin's Creed 3 box art.
Assassin's Creed 3 may take place during the American Revolution if you believe this alleged leaked image. A Best Buy employee sent this image of an assassin behind an American flag with 13 stars to Kotaku. The assassin in the image may be a Native American judging by the arrows. Ubisoft is set to make a major Assassin's Creed 3 announcement on Monday, March 5th.
As of now, this image has not been confirmed as official or even concept art. We do know the Assassin's Creed 3 release date though.
Do you want Assassin's Creed 3 to take place in America?

I had a feeling it was going to be the Revolutionary War, but I was hoping we'd play as someone like Paul Revere or Ben Franklin.

It's time to kick the Animus aside and play as Desmond in the year 2012. We all know this will end in current times, lets play the game in it. Everyone I know wants this for AC3. If you must go back in time yet again to get a final piece to the puzzle fine, but make most of the game play as Desmond please.
Preyer
judging from his jacket I'm pretty sure he is a revolutionary soldier, maybe as well as fighting the British he could be helping Native American tribes, which would explain the bow.

yeah i'd like to see it and its not that big of a jump each series is 3 centuries apart... :) i mean we always do another country ive never seen this before...

" The assassin in the image may be a Native American judging by the arrows"
racist.

Too far of a jump for my tastes. We go from the 12th Century Middle East, to the 15th Century with Ezio, to the 18th Century in America? I'd rather see them go to Louis XIV's France, or even better: The Habsburg Empire. One of Europe's longest reigning dynasties, who dominated the continent for centuries could put some real meat on Assassins' Creed's bones.
I'm not against moving further South or East, but Ethiopia and India are as far as I'd go. Assassins' Creed: Swahili Coast or Assassins' Creed: Feudal Japan are still a bit far.

Because of the date, this will have to be the last game concerning the 2012 storyline, from there, they could start doing prequels, tie-ins, the possibilities are endless, Desmond or not. I think they should do what Matt Keil suggested a long time ago on Feedback - Assassins Creed Chronicles, stand alone games with their own unique characters and settings, this way you can have your French Revolution, Ninjas VS Samurai, or even (but unlikely) some Egyption parkour. I just hope they let up on the yearly dev cycle if it means sacrificing quality. Other Venues that would be sweet, Pacific Islands (hawaii), South Africa during Apartheid, Mexico, Ancient Mexico(mayans?) how sweet would an obsidian blade be? Russia, China and Mongolia, India. There is a whole world and cornucopia of cultures to explore spanning centuries. There is no reason for this franchise to die out.
As long as they don't let M. Night get involved with any aspect of production, cinematic or otherwise, the AC fans should feel at ease. In a related note, I hope that if Ubisoft decides to go ahead with the movie idea, they keep it simple and try not to squeeze a ton of stuff into it. But the skeptic in me sees nothing but failure and dissapointment from a project like that.

I can't wait. if its really in the American Revolution, does that means that it also changes the gameplay.
if it does im kinda scared, but hell i will still play ti.
OBOLGER
honestly i would like to see it move across europ and asia a little more first than make one of the ancestors journey to america obviously,I feel like they are skipping alot by just jumping to america from constantinople.
((GLADOS))
I also would have liked to see it in Feudal Japan, but if it's and assassins creed game i'll play it.

Like I said to @starkiller712 it does not matter if that person is related to Ezio he just needs to be related to Desmond or it could be a mix person of European and Aboriginal American parents that is also related to Desmond if at all but this is AC3 so yeah he is related to Desmond.
Anyhow this was unsuspected and not that desired since I also wanted to see France during the revolution which takes place around this time, but now that I have seen this pic and others I'm very interested thanks to the fact that I like the whole historic aspect of this series so thanks Ubisoft.
toastypimpslap
as long as it doesn't turn into a shooter than it would be cool. like no full on guns 1 or 2 is fine...no machine guns

wow popular topic.
Because of the parkour movements of AC it's hard to imagine AC in Colonial America, Tokyo (although i'm not too familiar with Tokyo's buildings but I assume they weren't as close and compact as European and Middle East cities). French Revolution would be a possibility.
either way I hated AC1. Liked AC2 LOVED AC: Brotherhood and AC: Revelations was fun as well.
My biggest problem with AC is that I don't give a flying object about the storyline so it's very annoying when I have to sit there and watch the cut scenes.
Either way I'm a little excited for an AC3. Ubisoft isn't too bad of a publisher and typically takes 'good' care of it's games. Sam Fisher had a few bad ones but Ubisoft is usually pretty good.

AC3 wouldn't make any sense in Colonial America unless the character was climbing trees the whole time.
