MLG Winter Arena A Success; Two Arena Events Now Planned For The Spring Season

November 18 Declared As Major League Gaming Day In Providence Rhode Island

The Major League Gaming (MLG) Winter Arena was held this past weekend and suffice to stay, the StarCraft 2 tournament was a huge success. Overall, MLG gave out over $20,000 in prizes after three days of competition feaguring players from around the globe.

After three days of competition, Lee Jung 'MarineKing' Hoon, 18 from Korea, came out on top securing $10,000. MarineKing beat out 32 of the world’s best StarCraft II players who came from as far as Korea, Russia, throughout Europe, Canada and the US to compete.

“The Winter Arena was filled with some incredible match ups, upsets and victories from the best StarCraft II Players in the world,” said Sundance DiGiovanni, CEO, Major League Gaming. “Our first completely PPV Arena competition surpassed our sales goals with fans tuning in from around the globe."

The top 16 players, which you can check out after the break, have all secured placement and an all expense paid trip to the MLG Winter Championships in Columbus, Ohio on March 23-25. 

Here's the list of the winners and their placement:

•       1st Place: $10,000 - MarineKing
•       2nd Place: $6,000 - DongRaeGu
•       3rd Place: $3,600 - Huk
•       4th Place: $2,200 - Oz
•       5th/6th Place: $1,400 - Parting, Violet
•       7th/8th Place: $900 - Naniwa, Ganzi
•       9th-12th Place: DeMuslim, MC, Ret, Leenock
•       13th-16th Place: Grubby, Socke, StC, Nestea
•       17th Place: Haypro
•       18th - 24th Place: Sheth, Sjow, Ddoro, SaSe, Mvp, Merz, Haypro, Thorzain
•       25th- 32nd Place: DDE, Idra, Minigun, San, Pomi, Drewbie, Axslav, Losira

If you want to check out all of the matches from the tournament, they're available now if you purchased PPV, and they'll be available for free viewing on Monday, March 5 on MLG's Website.

Next up for MLG fans is their large-scale Winter Championships, a spectator event featuring not just StarCraft 2, but Halo: Reach and Mortal Kombat as well. The event will be held in Columbus, Ohio from March 23-25 at the SMG-managed Greater Columbus Convention Center.

After the Winter Championships, because of the success of this weekend's Winter Arena, Sundance also mentioned that  MLG will be holding two arena competitions for StarCraft 2 in the MLG Spring Season.
