If you haven’t already checked out each and every beautiful frame of the new Borderlands 2 trailer, then you may want to see if you still have a pulse. Fear not, Borderlands 2 teasure hunters. We’ve already dissected and delivered to you the tastiest morsels in our latest in-depth preview. Let’s dive back into the trailer to find out what’s hiding out between all those quick cuts and big explosions. Blink and you may just miss one of the most anticipated shooters of the year.
Details after the break.
1. New Environments
It may be the same planet, but Pandora never looked so good. We catch a glimpse at the very beginning of the trailer of what the new areas may look like. Crisscrossing paths stream out from an open base to move past a multistory tower and to end at a group of simple shacks. Even in such a small section of the playing area, we get to see diverse terrain and start to get an idea of just how massive Pandora can be.
2. New Shield Guy
Though we’ve seen a couple of new faces, this guy's mug stands out since he takes up more screen time than anyone else. Who is this cloaked man with the massive shield and “no entry” sign around his neck? Friend or foe, he’s shaping up to be a big deal in the world of Borderlands 2.
The two-seaters from the original Borderlands seem to be a thing of the past. Just like we’ve seen in the General Knoxx DLC, now all of your friends can pile in one vehicle. Take the wheel while someone else takes the gunner seat while your two buddies in the trunk take care of themselves. It’s not like they won’t bring their weapons long.
The new siren, Maya, seems to have some new tricks at hand. Take a quick look at her abilities and you’ll see that she works like her old counterpart. One branch of her tech tree focuses on giving her additional abilities when you use her special power, phaselock. A second branch seems to focus on shields and speed. Her third branch holds the infamous phoenix power as well as another ability beyond that.
A gun has never said so much. Take a look at the weapons and you’ll find that each one looks incredible as well as shows off their abilities. One gun in the trailer that shoots corrosion lights up green when you pull the trigger. We’re seeing more diverse colors, shapes, and explosions when it comes to ways we can take on the adversaries of Pandora. Get your trigger fingers ready when Borderlands 2 comes out later this year.
