Update: 10:37 AM: The Eagle has landed! The first package, the Normandy, has anded somewhere near HWY 1, Redwood State Park & Big Basin. As yet, no one has located the package.
BioWare's Mass Effect 3 space-promotion, where the company is sending early copies of the game up to space attached to a weather balloon, is happening this morning in San Francisco. G4 has a man on the ground at the first launch site, the great Miguel Concepcion, who reports the following interesting facts.
- The first package sent to space, at a little after 7 AM PST, contains 10 copies of the game: Five for the 360 and five for the PS3.
- The second launch went off a little after 9 AM.
- The expected landing time for each is three or four hours from launch time.
- The expected landing location for the first package is Santa Cruz, CA... but the package is at the mercy of winds and fate, so don't take that as anything but a prediction.
So get finding! We have some more pictures of the Mass Effect 3 balloon launch under the "Read More" tag.
Any of you guys planning on picking up an advance copy of Mass Effect 3, or will you be more like me: Munching popcorn and enjoying the spectation.
Check out the live feed of the things location right here!

So what's to stop some one from taking all 10 games?..
DaddyMatt
Y did they put 10 in one balloon an not send up 10 balloons with 1 game in it

Dear Bioware, I wouldn't mind getting my copy early via weather balloon. I'll be waiting on the roof. Thanks.

I think this is a great idea, unless you play pc, but if you play pc you got more problems than not getting free video games from baloons....

I did a project exactly like this in high school (except without the mass effect) to see the curvature of the earth. They should have done some research to figure out where there things could land. I ended up traveling about 100 miles west so I could make sure my balloon didnt fall in the water. If anyone is interested I used this site to figure out approximately where the balloon would land based on current weather conditions. Maybe you could use it to get a heads up for the other launches.

Wait if there launching full games...WHY ISN'T IS OUT YET?!?!?! I didn't like the series but I wonder why make everyone wait.

20 dollars says the cases are empty

Yeah... consider the always possibility of it landing in a road and gets smashed by a car or truck, or lands in water and floats away. Yeah, fun idea but a this is complete waste of a perfectly good game! >=( Watch some old guy find them and sell them on e-bay with no idea. You know someone is just going to re-sell the extra copies anyway. I pay to much money for my per-order just see them thrown away like this. At least put a mini cam on it.

ok, so let me get this straight.... Bioware is originally a Canadian Company.... and now they do this event for fans almost everywhere round the world... but not anywhere in Canada? WTF EA and Bioware!?! Did anyone else notice that? Why does Canada get left out? Its like that one other event bioware was doing on their website last year or a little more ago that it would be an event for everyone and got fans all round the world excited to only be let down that the event was for US residents only...
