Until Microsoft announces the next Xbox console, we're going to speculate. We can't help it. Kotaku has posted the latest NextBox rumor stating "multiple sources close to the project" have told them the current nickname is "Durango." I'm not crazy about this codename and to be honest it make me think of the Canyonero.
As is the tradition, codenames and nicknames don't mean anything when it's time to officially announce a console. Remember when Kinect was Natal and the Wii was the Revolution?

I still don't think they're coming out with a new console anytime soon.

Am I the only one who recalls Nintendo's Project Dolphin (aka Gamecube)? These code names are little more than water cooler fodder and diversionary tactics to throw off the press. We'd all be wise to dodge these distractions and keep our eye to the keyhole until something truly newsworthy comes by. Better to keep an open and objective perspective than make assumptions, because we all know what happens when we assume.

The Wii wasn't nicknames revolution, that was its original name until they changed it to Wii.

Microsoft's code names come from the geographic area they are being developed in.

Whoa whoa whoa, everyone is missing probably the most important point. If the name reminds you of Canyonero, possibly one of the funniest things to ever air on the Simpsons... why is this a bad thing?
Durango blinds everybody with her super high beams

DURANGO!

why is there such a debate over codenames. I personally think codenames are cool and could be used indirectly for a nice marketing tool. however i do think nintendo dropped the ball and should have sticked with the revolution

It's just a codename. Not like it's going to matter. Atleast it's more original than just adding a number after each new console *cough*Sony*cough*

Hmm...what's Chrysler gonna think about that?

Who really cares? It's just a stupid codename. Nintendo naming their console Wii was just the beginning of a travesty.

The bad thing about codenames is the consumer tends to adopt it early on, and reject the final name when it comes out. When the name "Wii" was announced, many screamed objections to it verses the better sounding "Revolution". Kinect also sounded silly. However, in time, the name felt better. (Though I prefer Revolution and Natal). Durango, however... not sure if want.

durazno would have been better. haven't had durazno in years, i'm hungry now. :(
