Dota 2 will have both LAN and mod support according to Valve's Market Director, Erik Johnson.
"There are some systems that LAN mode requires that we haven't finished yet, mainly because we've been focused on matchmaking. "We know how important this feature is for the community," he said.
He also mentioned Valve would allow mods once Dota 2 is released. "We have a long history supporting the mod community around our own games, so we'd like to continue that with DotA 2."
A release date has not been announced, but this new information will hold me over for the time being. Are you excited about Dota 2?

Wow, bugged comment box.... I stand by what I say though both companies are idiots and Dota belongs on blizzard games as a mod not a game itself.
