Guinness, the standard-bearer for world records, has declared that the 2010 Call of Duty release from Treyarch, Black Ops, ranks at number one on the Top 50 Video Game Endings of All Time list. So that happened. Science wasn't used to determine the winner; instead, the game won in a poll that "13,519 fans of gaming" participated in. Moral of the story? More of you should get out and vote next time.
I'm a definite Call of Duty fan, and Black Ops is one of the series' superior titles in my own book. Best game ending ever though? Ehhhhhh.... Does such an objective judgment even belong in the Guinness record book, especially when it's just decided by a poll with a relatively small turnout?

For recent times, I can't remember anything ending better than Arkham City.
All-time, gotta have some Half-Life up there, though I'm really struggling to think just now of anything deserving of 'all-time' to be honest!

I saw Sonic The Hedgehog at number 28. I hope they don't mean the 2006 version, or this list needs to be redone and Guinness needs to redo the list. Plus Black Ops ending was pretty dumb, Red Dead should've been first. As for Arkham City, I think all the games on this list are pre 2011, i could be wrong but thats what it looks like, otherwise it gets to be way up there also.

You can tell not many PC gamers were polled, hopefully the list they come out with this year will include Arkham City. ( And the ending to the Force Unleashed 2 was touching even though we all know who that cliffhanger will play out.)

Umm No medal of honor great campain in that game and its not even on the list. Its the best war shooter story line iv ever played and iv played just about all of them. I started to cry at the end you actualy care about the caracters in the game. If you havent played medal of honor you should great game shows what war is really like.

Exactly as mentioned above, it all comes down to popularity and (therefore) exposure. Black Ops was a terrible game as a whole, but it is also one of the more popular installments in the series, so statistically speaking those "fans of gaming" would have more of a chance at actually seeing the ending to that game as opposed to other much better ones. Also, I'll bet that a lot of the voters were console-only players, simply due to accessibility and whatnot. This would make the votes behind amazing games like the Half Life series fall behind very quickly.

Halo and CoD taking 1 and 2 says it all. Nothing but fanboys voting blindly for their favorite franchise. 90% of the voters probably only play mindless brown and grey shooters and have never even touched a game with a proper story arch or ending.

That list baffled me. I think much of it is based on popular games rather than the game having either a well written or simply a very satisfying ending, which is what I would consider for a "best" ending.
