The Future of Platformers: Looking Forward To Super Mario 3D, Land, LittleBigPlanet Vita, The Last Guardian, and More!

You all knew this was going to be coming at some point, so hopefully you've properly steeled yourselves: LittleBigPlanet Karting is officially a thing. We first heard about it earlier this week when Canadian retailer FutureShop tweeted about the game's reveal at a Destination PlayStation event. A Move-compatible racing wheel and 3D support were both mentioned. A subsequent tweet from PSN Stores included an image of a promo poster for the unannounced game.

Well it's unannounced no more. Sony's issued an official tweet on its @PlayStation feed that reads: "Update: We can confirm that LittleBigPlanet Karting is in fact in development and we look forward to sharing more on the game soon!"

Yay? Your mileage may vary (pun definitely intended). Is the world ready for a LittleBigPlanet kart racer?

did some one talk about story in a kart racer "chapter 8 left turn". this is dumb but as a huge lbp fan lbp 2 was a step back as well

Nice! I hope there's going to be a really good car customization. That's one of my favorite parts about video games, the customization.

    Seems unnecessary to me.

Kind of a step backwards for the LBP franchise too. With all the flexible creativity they've given us in the previous LBP games, why limit it to a single genre now?

If they wanted to do some kart racing then they probably should have just added a new mode or level design to the next full LBP game.

Making this a stand alone game just seems.. well.. while looking back - I want to say greedy. There's no reason it couldn't have been thrown in a new game with everything else LBP currently offers, I would have bought that without a doubt!

    But this, I will not.

Is this a brand new game or just level kit tools for LBP2? I can't imagine Sony starting up another kart racing franchise with ModNation still around. If it's that important, just throw some LBP styled tracks in ModNation.

I agree that at first this me seem like an odd direction to take LBP since you can create racing levels in LBP 2 and in ModNation Racers but if it were to have a separate story from ModNation Racers then I could see that and LBP Karting coexisting with one another. MNR: Road Trip is the sequel to MNR and will be released next week for the Vita so they could be continuing the MNR series exclusively on the Vita while doing LBP Karting for the PS3.

When you see the amount of 'racing' levels built using LBP and LBP 2 already, I guess this is a natural progression, but that doesn't mean it makes a whole lot of sense. ModNation Racers already gave the LBP treatment to racers, and, as I said before, people use the creation toolkits in LBP and LBP 2 to make racing levels already. Making a racing-centric LittleBigPlanet game is an odd move, at least in my opinion.

Awesome Idea, I loved Mario Kart and I love Little Big Planet. I am sure their literation of the genre is going to be amazing!
