Epic Games Reveals Unreal Engine 3 Plans For GDC 2010According to Epic Games vice president Mark Rein, The Unreal Engine 4 will be revealed in 2012. We were speaking with Mark about Epic founder Tim Sweeney's contribution to the gaming world, the Unreal Engine, when Rein mentioned we could expect to see more Unreal 4 this year.

"People are going to be shocked later this year when they see Unreal Engine 4 and how much more profound an effect it will have," Rein said.

We expect Epic will be releasing more information on the game engine later today at DICE 2012, so stick around G4TV.com's DICE 2012 coverage.

We all saw the U3 tech demo from last year's GDC. I think I speak for everyone when I say, "More of this, please!" Check out the video below:

I cant remember the last time anything 3d shocked me. This stuff advances so slowly really. They aim at "reality" with funny slogans like "photo realistic" etc, when there isnt a single gpu on the planet that could render a single realistic tree in real time. I would be shocked if any company had the guts to give us a quality graphics nicely animated 2d game.

Can't wait to see it released to the public as a game. Also I agree that last Unreal Tournament installment left me cold. They need to use this engine to update the graphics on previous editions of the game. As far as hardware goes, this is Demo supposedly used triple SLI GTX 580's and not 590's and I'm sure they will make it scaleable down to lower levels as well. I see current generation of consoles and not being able to do Direct X 11 as having more of a problems with this, but maybe by the time anything comes out as a game to the public the next gen consoles should be hitting the retail shelves.

I'm looking forward to this release, but, there are some things I would really like to see:

I would like to have the ability to dynamically import geometry in real time (i.e., during game play without the editor) and manipulate the vertices and normals in real time as well (i.e., procedural distortions). I would also like the ability to do the same for materials, shaders and textures. These abilities would greatly impact my research.

Maybe a bit more of a easier unreal editor and more functions and features for unrealsript

please let this mean a new unreal tournament. i really like FPS's today but i would really like that goes back to classic roots once in a while. 10 weapons, numbered health, and weapon spawns on maps. it would just be something refreshing.

Maybe they can make a good Unreal Tournament again. UT3 was so crap.

This should be a game the character's and the Plot seem so perfect It also has a good title but they could use a different title If they had too, I mean I sure as hell would buy this if it was a game.

Just give us a new UT in the 99 style, on PS3. That's all we need right now.

Fingers crossed for sparse voxel octrees. Polygons served us well, but the future is now and its time to move on. Also topology sucks and should die...

I love the Unreal Engine; it is very hardware efficient! And because it is so efficient it allows these now outdated current gen consoles to still have good graphics. I also love it on the PC, because it allows me to get over 120 FPS in even some of the newest games. Excellent engine; can't wait for the next release!

On a side note Cryengine 3 is also very efficient and nice looking! (Unlike Cryengine 2 which was a hog with a waterfall of memory leaks.)

Games already run on the engine featured in this video. Yet they don't look anything like it.
I kind of don't understand the mindset of, " Give me a new game engine!" but at the same time the same people say, " It's too soon for new consoles!". You can't have it both ways. Better hardware is required to get the best graphics out of the software.

So how about it console kiddies? You ready to change your mind and stop holding tech back because you're too cheap? Better graphics doesn't just magically happen out of old hardware.

It's called a reveal not release. Meaning there will be no doubt, tons of changes from now to its finish. Look at UDK as an example.

Tim Sweeney must have alot more free time on his hands-- because it felt not too long ago that he said the Unreal 4 Engine would take a while to develop... yet here we are in 2012 and it's actually gonna make a debut? Amazing.

Can't wait to see a Gears game using UE4!

Anyone else think the Samaritan character looks like a skinny version of Dom?

I read somewhere (I think it was a GI issue) that it takes 3 Nvidia GeForce GTX 590's to run the Samaritan demo. That's like $2200 just for the graphics cards.

Eventhough that was only a Tech Demo Video...can we go ahead and ask for someone to please make "Samaritan" a possible game in the future?? Just the video alone gives great ideas for a story and game.

But as for Unreal Engine 4, I'm anxious to see what games will come from that.
