The first real details emerged on Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3-exclusive The Last of Us late last week, thanks to an upcoming Game Informer cover story. As is often the way of things, some more details from the upcoming issue have hit the video games-loving interwebs, specifically the NeoGAF forums. I'm not going to spoil everything because, hey, you should check out the magazine. But here are a few new details that weren't shared last week.
The man seen in the trailer, Joel, is a gun and drug smuggler in a post-apocalyptic world that's been divided up between infected and quarantine zones, with military forces executing anyone discovered to be infected at official checkpoints. Joel agrees early on in the game to smuggle Ellie, the young girl seen in the trailer, out of the safe zone for reasons that aren't clear. Things don't go as planned and the military pursues them, so they head west. It seems now that the previously revealed Pittsburgh location may be just a starting point.
The cover story will take a look at the gameplay, which apparently features a focus on melee combat, puzzle-solving and platforming. There's also some hinting that the game will feature multiplayer, but nothing specific is revealed. There's more at NeoGAF, but the GI issue will be out soon enough, with screenshots!
