Electronic Arts announced their digital distribution service Origin generated more than $100 million in 2011 during their quarter three financial call. The success is probably in part due to the 2 million copies that Star Wars: The Old Republic sold and the 10 million copies that Battlefield 3 managed to rack up.
According to EA, Origin, "has registered more than 9.3 million consumers and generated more than $100 million in non-GAAP revenue since launch. Origin has publishing agreements with Warner Brothers, THQ, CapCom and recently added 11 new publishing partners including Trion and Robot Entertainment."
I'm pretty impressed by the success of Origin, as I've only had negative experiences with the service. It seems like I'm the only one, though. Well done EA.

Well, my first impressions of it have been pretty damn good actually. It's not as good as Steam, no. But it is better than Gamestop's Impulse, which hasn't updated its catalogue in ages. Steam still has the best support, but Origin's products downloaded surprisingly fast. Normally it would've taken about an hour and a half to download a title I already owned through Impulse, Origin found it in my library, and added it to the library on its own. It downloaded the game in less than half the time it took for Impulse to do it.
It's not that bad, but still prefer Steam.

Lol and EA still wants to give console games a Online Pass Codes. Power to the gamers my ass.
God i hate to love EA.

Those boycott-ers showed them! Whatever will they do without YOUR money to wipe their ass with? Well...they'll probably just hired someone to lick them clean.

Everyone is here bashing Origin personally I have not had any problem with it... But hey we all love steam dont we, lets see how many steam only games do I have on my account.. Well I bought dead island at gamestop and thats a steam only game then any of the valve games obviously so wait I was being held hostage with that game and all the other steam only games on my system......
Oh and then you complain that Origin scans my system software just like Steam does...hey wait Steam doesnt scan your system does it??? Guess what guys it does... you want proof look at your steam menu main screen in the top left hand corner you will see the little menus...
Steam View Friends Games and Help.
Well what you do is select the Help button and then a dropdown pops up. In the dropdown you will see a button that says System Information.. Tell you what push that button and what pops up within a second or two viola your copy of steams system scan..Hey mine even shows that I have Battlefield 3 installed hey wait thats not a Steam game how could they know that? They didnt scan my system did they.... Apparently all of you bashing Origin for EA's open admittance to it scanning you system has never read any of the EULAs that you accept including everything from Steam and Implulse to Origin and Punkbuster allowing their software to do that.
The first couple years that Steam was out it was a horrendous program so was EA downloader, Impulse and all of the other digital media distribution systems. Origin is less then a year old and it does have its weaning problems, but so far they are allot less problems then I have dealt with on my steam account. And as for me I am all for digital distribution, I dont even have a CD/DVD drive in my computer anymore. Be it Steam, or Origin saves me from standing in line at gamestop with all the xbox kids on release night of the game, much easier to download it in advance and get on and play.

Shocked that BF3 sold more copies than SWTOR, and is EA bigger than Activision?

Origin is a terrible service. I only use it because of BF3 and even then I launch it through Steam.

A lot of those accounts are gun point registrations. For example, I just bought Dragon Age II for the pc. Installed it. Then the origin registration page came up. So even if I wanted to, I couldn't return my open game. So I had to suck it up, register to play. Anti-consumerism at it's best (or worst).

Dear Leah..
You are not alone. Ive had a horrible experience with Origin as soon as I downloaded it. Origin simply hates easy and is probably spying on you....which means EA just locked your account for bashing Origin.
permanent_nirvana
That could say 1 trillion dollars. I'm still not giving up Steam.
zombieking36
You really couldn't finish the article without an opinion?
But anyways, at least this prevents a Steam-based monopoly as they get other devs on board.
hoof_hearted4
i wont download Origins. i dont need them reading the hardware of my PC for their own needs.

From what I've been hearing, I think we can safely say that you're not the only one who's had a negative experience with it.
