Battlefield 3

While Battlefield 3 didn't outsell its rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the game has done very, very well for parent company Electronic Arts. According to EA, Battlefield 3 sold over 10 million copies. That's not copies-shipped, either. That's copies sold.  Soccer simulation FIFA 2012 also topped 10 million in sales, and Madden NFL 2012 sold over 5 million copies.

The good news comes by way of EA's quarterly financial results. Overall, it's been a really good quarter for the company. They boast:

"We recorded our highest operating cash flow in 31 quarters and grew segment share in both Europe and North America," said Eric Brown, Chief Financial Officer. "Third quarter non-GAAP digital revenue grew 79% year-over year, and we achieved our goal of generating over $1 billion in non-GAAP digital revenue on a trailing-twelve-month basis."

That's another way of saying, "Cha-CHING."

Good for EA, and good to hear that such an exceptional shooter such as Battlefield 3 has sold rather well. Sure, it didn't outsell MW3, but as people have already said here in the forums, its quality is vastly superior to MW3 (even though that won't matter to the COD junkies out there). As far as what's coming next from them as far as shooters, I'd think a new Madel of Honor built on Frostbite 2 would be coming. Mainly because the 2010 reboot had a very interesting direction, solid story (if not one that lacks some depth), and still sold rather well. The things that ruined it though were bad marketing and buggy multiplayer (as well as multiplayer that lacked that depth and replayability that a lot of other EA shooters have had). Though one thing I'd personally like to see from DICE would be a Mirror's Edge sequel, or Bad Company 3 (both built with Frostbite 2), I'd be happy either way.

Well I learned from MW2 that IW isn't the great developer it once was in with Modern Warfare. I have faith in Treyarch that they'll make another great COD. Since so far in my book 5/7 and now more than likely 9 will be my favorite ones.

I hated Bad Company 2 with a passion. I found it just horrific. But now I play BF3 more than COD, and I enjoy BF3 more far more. I feel as though I am free, I don't have to worry about stats, and rank, I can fly a jet a whole game, or drive a jeep. Without having to worry about actually winning.

BF3 is a relaxing game for hardcore gamers imo. Whereas Mw3 is a rage-filled clusterf---.

Great!, now i gotta wait for hopefully the 2143 DLC xpak like they did with BFBC2 Vietnam. and the one gripe i found lacking in BF3 was the story taking itself too serious. now a thought for Dice. Why not have the campaign focus on bad company and have the multiplayer be the usual thing. i enjoyed bad company 1 story alot more than BC2 or BF3's. and if possible maybe online campaign co-op?

Glad it sold that much & I hope it continues to sell well. I bought the Limited Edition for Xbox & it's an amazing game. The Back to Karkand DLC is amazing too. 4 new maps, 10 new guns, 3 new vehicles, new conquest mode. Can't wait to see what they have stored for the next DLC

    PS3...10.48m
    360...13.16m

You people know that EA will think there the new CoD now and put one out every year now. They will become what you hate and you will hate yourself for alowing it to happen. ( Would like another Bad Company. )

No they killed CoD. People may have bought CoD during a brief moment of poor judgment but many of those players chose to stick with BF3 because it's simply a better game. I only bought BF3 but noticed a couple people on my friends list with both are on BF3 far more often.

EA and Dice said they were going to make a call of duty killer. They obviously didnt do it sales wise, but for the quality of the actual game, battlefield 3 is miles ahead of MW3 with hardly any exception.
