Valve Announces Mobile Steam App: Use Chat And Connect With Friends On Your iOS Or Android Device

A full-featured mobile version of Steam is the dream for many gamers. While you're certainly not going to be playing Skyrim on your smartphone anytime soon, you can take a moment today to appreciate being one step closer thanks to Valve's newly released Steam Mobile app.

The free download is available in both the iOS App Store and Android Market. You'll need to access your registered e-mail address and punch in one of those five-letter access codes after you sign in for the first time on the new device. It's a one-time thing though, the same process that you go through whenever you register your Steam account on a new computer.

The app doesn't offer access to any games you can play, but you can LOOK at the product pages, check out sales and interact with your Steam friends. You can also, somewhat dangerously, buy stuff. From your phone. With a few taps.

This will not go well.
