Polytron captured the hearts and minds of gamers back in 2008 with the Independent Games Festival reveal of Fez, a charming 2D/3D platformer sporting some mind-boggling level design and innovative gameplay. Hopes for a release have been repeatedly dashed since then, but a new tweet from the developer SEEMS to indicate that we're getting pretty close to finally playing this thing.

The tweet reads: "FEZ RECEIVES ESRB RATING: E for everyone, mild fantasy violence!" While the ESRB's website hasn't yet been updated with the listing, confirmation that the game has been rated certainly suggests that the planned 2012 release is actually going to happen. Could this future Xbox Live Arcade release be one of Microsoft's planned Summer of Arcade offerings? Given the pre-release popularity of Fez, that's certainly not outside the realm of possibility.
