While we now know that the Xbox 720 probably won't be at E3 2012, PlayStation France's boss, Philippe Cardone has stated that PlayStation will likely be the last company to announce their next-gen plans. Meaning we probably won't see the PlayStation 4 at E3 this year, either.
“It’s true that there are a lot of rumours, but I couldn’t tell you anything,” said Cardone in an interview with LePoint.fr. “Wii is pressed for time because it’s in decline. In our case, we have a lot less pressure. We were the last to release PS3, and we will probably be the last to announce something.”
Currently we haven't heard much in the way of PS4 rumors and I'm not really surprised about that. The PlayStation 3 (aside from the PSN thing) had a pretty great year last year with tons of awesome exclusive titles. This year isn't looking much different, and with the Vita launch coming up in February, Sony already has a lot on their plate.

The PS3 came out a year after the 360 and it uses the same core (PPE) that MS uses, an IBM built chip.
The difference is that the PS3 uses 1 and 7 SPE's, whereas the 360 uses 3 and 3 daughter dies.

2 things I'd like to see (and they are small):
-a voip option to message / talk with my friends outside of games
-A stronger web browser that doesn't freeze so often.
Aside from that, since sony is sticking with blue ray, the initial cost should be lower this time around.
I never thought I's see a PS4 in 2012 anyways, and I'm fine with that for now

I think if Sony waits until after Microsoft to announce their console, they will be able to destroy Microsoft in the next gen of consoles. Sony will likely incorporate even more supercomputer technology into the PS4 than they did in the PS3. This will make it insanely powerful compared to whatever generic GPU and CPU Microsoft puts into their 720, and they'll figure out a way to make it commercially affordable, but if Sony announces their console first it will allow Microsoft the option to copy the PS4.

I was under the impression that Sony already made clear that with every new console they develop, they aim for a ten year lifespan for that console. Just because Nintendo has a new system coming out suddenly there is this great hype about what other companies are doing. I still think we have yet to see the best this console has to offer. The only thing I can ask for from Sony is that when they finally are ready to launch a new console, they find a way to do away with loading and stabilize online multiplayer games. It's not like Sony is sitting around right now anyway. With tons of exclusives, PS Move, and the Vita they are doing more than enough to keep there fans happy.

We don't need a new generation of consoles but then again we don't need current ones either. We just want new consoles. If we never moved on to the next generation we would still be playing Atari 2600's on black and white tv's. I for one welcome the new consoles.

Sony needs to start making money so they can show a profit out of the PS3.
They're currently going into year 4 of losses.
This generation has really knocked Sony off their high horse. Going from 6 PS2s for every Xbox to last place is a drop of biblical proportions.

I"m glad their not announcing the PS4 yet. I'm happy with the PS3 as it is. Besides, the PS3 was like 5 or 600 dollars at launch, so how much would a PS4 cost? probably more then a lot of people, including me are willing to spend. and don't forget that software costs also go up, so would games be like 70 dollars a pop? I hope Sony doesn't put out the PS4 for at least another 2 or 3 years...... as for new features in a PS4?...Hmmm... I can't really think of anything that the PS3 doesn't already do for me that i'd want. as long as it plays all PS3 games still, that's all It would need to do to impress me i guess, but since my PS3 plays PS3 games..I don't have a need for a new system any time soon

I don't care if PS4 comes out tomorrow, as long as they make it easier for developers to utilize the power of the Playstation. I love Sony and Playstation, but they really screwed themselves on the PS3 selling a 10k developer's kit that took years for developers to figure out. As of now, the Playstation's hardware is able to keep up with the next generation Xbox, but developers really have to outshine the competition with outstanding games.
Xbox die-hards are going to switch to a new console, and 80% that it's going to be the new Xbox, but if Sony can figure out a way to create a developer's kit that's easier to use, cheaper, and also allow beginner-level indie developers to learn how to make games for the Playstation, then I can see Playstation actually pulling through. The Cell processor's potential just poops on other console CPUs right now, but Sony really needs to provide an easier way for developers to utilize that power.

Just like with the 360, there's no reason for a new ps3 to come out anytime soon.
For the next systems I'm hoping they are more powerfull to allow for better AI, more NPCs, and more rooms and buildings to explore in games like GTA, Fable, and Saints Row. When game worlds get luch graphics the number of NPCs goes down. Also I want the NPCs to be even more interactive. More clothing options too.

Sony always said they wanted the PS3 to be a 10 year console, and i really feel like they could pull it off. i still have my original Ps3, been almost 4 years i think. the one thing im worried about it is dieing, me buying a Slim, and them coming out with the PS4 shortly there after. i can just sense that bad timing is going to happen to me lol.
there are a couple things i wanna see in the Ps4. better hardware obviously. the better it is, the longer it will last. i have no doubts the Ps4 will have the best hardware....cross game chat! the one and only thing xbox has that i envy. go back to 4+ USB ports. dont quote me but didnt they drop to like 2 on the Slim? keep it at 4 or more. 2 for controllers, and 2+ for extras. (for example i have an XHDD connected to mine)....which wouldnt matter if they come with bigger HDDs which im sure they will.....or SSDs! (if they drop in price by then, which i bet they will)....i like touch buttons. makes it feel special lol, keep that. and the big thing. probably the biggest thing. make it backwards compatible!!! both Ps2 AND Ps3 (and keep PSX games on the PSN) DO NOT get rid of that feature!!!!

Sony isn't likely to announce a ps4 at all. I have a very reliable friend who works high up in playstation and they said that they aren't even considering making a ps4 anytime in the future and that they are going to focus on portable consoles like the PSvita.
