In spite of rumors posted endlessly by internet video game news outlets (like ours), according to Cedrick Delmax, marketing director of Microsoft France, there won't be a new Xbox released in 2012.
In an interview with French media outlet Lepoint.Fr, Delmax said:
“We’re in an industry that talks a lot, that likes to tell stories. I am not convinced things will happen this year. Xbox 360′s cycle is not at all finished. The proof is that we don’t see the logic in cutting the price this year. E3 is still premature. What’s certain is that there’ll be nothing new in 2012.”
I'm not sure what the phrase "E3 is still premature" means in this context. Does that mean premature for the announcement of the system or premature for the system's release? My guess, sadly, is the former. While we all wish that the next-generation of gaming systems would come sooner as opposed to later, in reality, I doubt Microsoft is going to hype a brand new system when their same-old system is still selling so well. It's fun to speculate and spread rumors, but in the end, Microsoft will release the system when it feels it will make the most money.
Microsoft isn't officially talking, of course. The last official word we've gotten from a Microsoft representative:
“As an innovator we’re always thinking about what is next and how we can push the boundaries of technology like we did with Kinect. We believe the key to extending the lifespan of a console is not just about the console hardware, but about the games and entertainment experiences being delivered to consumers. Beyond that we don’t comment on rumors or speculation.”
So what do you guys think? Is an E3 reveal going to happen or not?

I don't think it will be revealed at E3, maybe on an off month, i think that would be interesting. However they better fix the problems outlined in this blog

I need a new computer

I'll never buy an Xbox when it first comes out ever. I think all the consoles should be backwards compatible without any download junk ever. JUST PUT THE DISC IN AND PLAY IT. Say take 360 game put in new xbox play simple daaa. same with playstation and nintendo. I like the blue on the xbox logo

My fear is if the XBOX 720 is ever made, then the XBOX 360 will me the same fate as the XBOX 1. Not all of us can afford to start all over again. New controllers and all too. Maybe Microsoft should work on a handheld. I dunno.
CommandoReed
My biggest fear is if Microsoft DOES come out with an XBOX 720. They will give us the indirect version of:
We are officially discontinuing any and all support for the XBOX 360. Now all of you are hereby FORCED, weather you like it or not, to buy an XBOX 720, and all the newer controls other things AND change your XBOX Live accounts to XBOX 720 - in order to ever play on XBOX Live online ever again! MUH HUH HUH HUH!!
Hey. They did the same thing to XBOX 1!! Didn't they???

As long as they do the new system/consumers justice by eliminating the overheating issues, NO MORE DAMN RED RING OF DEATH...Take the time out and make a durable system, we can't all afford to keep buying new systems. Also, heard something about not allowing us to play used games on the new console? ...Sigh... If this is the case, I just may keep my money in my pocket. Hope you are listening Microsoft. We hope that your listening.

Yea luckey...they're just waiting for a new president and economy to drop the 720. That's the dumbest ish on the web I've read, and I have twitter....Christmas 2013 bet.
luckey7
Also I personally dont think Xbox720 will come out this year or 2013. Maby they might push to 2014, perhaps waiting for the elections and a new president to get the economy where it needs to be.
luckey7
I have a theroy!!! I think Microsoft put the 720 in that movie because they new someone would see it and then a rumor would start getting alot of people excited. This way gamers would start putting money aside while the rumor is getting bigger and therefore when they do announce their next console people will already have some money put aside. But thats what I came up with, and if I am right then dam Im good.

MS wouldent spend a ton dough on kinect then toss that tech even if they did decide to launch a new console the market is in bad shape along with ppls wallets new system next year maybe but ill say 2014

What surprises me is that there are actually people whose job it is to analyze and report on the gaming industry who thought there WOULD be a new xbox this year lol. There is no way that MS was going to release Halo 4 on 360 in the same year, or around the same time, as they released a brand new next-gen console.
Outlaw20XX
to be honest I'd rather later than sooner for the next gen systems to come out
Crabb90
The XBOX-Kinect came out not too long ago. Maybe 2012 will be all about taking games to the interactive level. At least, for Microsoft. I don't know. I just want to get my own 360.

If M$ goes with the "new" only games on the 720 I feel they would not only have a ton of lawsuits but environmentally it would be devastating (digital only is a different story though).
Would love to see DX11 on the 720 and an actual browser.

Both the PS3 and xbox are outdated, in terms of what computing costs now (aka: &%*$ is constantly getting faster and cheeper).
However, the xbox uses dvds (around 4GB space) , which are rapidly being phased out for things like instant streaming - hell, even the PS3's blueray (25GB space) is going to get outdated in the next few years. Its safe to guess that the next generation of consols will not use disks, or at least the possibility exists. They will obviously have more memory or perhaps Microsoft and sony wont even use hardisks.
Whatever it is, its going to involve downloading games more so than disk shenanigans. This is probably how they plan on dealing with the game resale businesses (watch out Gamestop! haha).

whats wrong with the current systems just enjoy the damn things and not worry about something that might or might not come out.

@cptpain- You're right the Xbox is produced in Redmond Wa, but is manufactured in China and Canada.
Most importantly, thank you for correcting me in a non-douche bag manner. Very rare on the internet these days.
But...I still think they might make an announcement, but then again it is at least 75% wishful thinking.

i didnt get the first xbox, ps2 was superior
i didnt get the second xbox, ps3 was superior
shall i continue?

I think there is no need for a new console. First off, knowing Microsoft, they will probably not let you play 360 games on the 720 over xbox live like how they did with the original xbox games. They want you to spend more money on a new console. Second, rumors say that there will be like 20 times the processing power of the 360, which in my mind means more console failure. Third, I forgot what its called but the video/graphics card they are rumored to be using will be 2 series or more obsolete when its released which brings me to number 4. Console suck. Put 800 into a decent desktop computer and you will destroy any console. Compare the top end computer to the best console out there. Its like comparing the SNES to the 360 where the SNES is the 360. Plus with Windows 8 going to be incorperating the Kinect with computers, whats the point of a crappy console. Build a computer and enjoy true gaming with the best graphics and gameplay.
