In spite of many internet reports coming in today, CD Projekt Red has not announced The Witcher 3. The rumor comes by way of a number of game sites reporting that the title was revealed during a press conference last night. The reports seemed pretty legit: There was a press conference with CD Projekt Red, and the idea of a Witcher 3 announce seems plausible. The problem with the story, though: According to CD Projekt Red, there was no such announcement at the conference. Chalk it up to sloppy interneting, or premature excitement.
Game site VG247 got the inside story from CD Projekt Red's Michal Nowakowski who told VG247 there was no announcement last night. “I was at that conference as a matter of fact and I can assure you nothing of the sort was announced,” he said in an email.
“The purpose of the conference was to unveil the details of X360 launch of Witcher 2," Nowakowski said. "with the release date of 17th of April 2012, launch on the same day of PC Enhanced Edition, and reveal of some new features for both versions we did not speak about before. That is it.”
That having been said, if I had to bet on whether The Witcher 3 is in development, I'd put my money on "yes." That could be just my personal hopes for the third installment in the series to hit.
As always, when I know more, I'll let you know it.
