Soul Calibur 5 Announced By Namco Bandai -- Get Ready To Fight In 2012

We just learned the DLC plans for fighting game Soul Calibur 5, and they involve bikinis, skulls, armor and more. There will be three separate packs available for download, at least in Europe, with the focus being on customization.

The first pack hits on Soul Calibur 5 release date, February 3, where pack 2 will be released on Valentine's day, and the third DLC will be out on February 28.

Click the "Read More" tag for the official descriptions of what will be available.

  • Pack 1: Launch Day February 3rd - Nine exotic customization items including bikinis, wings and face paints. Original music from Soul Blade and SOULCALIBUR (tracks also available individually for €0.99 or 80MS points)
  • Pack 2: Valentine's Day February 14th - Nine fearsome customization items including breast plate, kimono and animal heads. Original music from SOULCALIBUR II and III (tracks also available individually for €0.99 or 80MS points)
  • Pack 3: February 28th - Nine exclusive customization items including mask, face paint, camouflage and skull. Original music from SOULCALIBUR IV and SOULCALIBUR: Broken Destiny (tracks also available individually for €0.99 or 80MS points)

We'll let you know about the North American release of this DLC when we learn anything, but until then, what do you think? Is this the direction that you would like to see DLC moving (really small prices for things like costumes), or would you rather see more in-depth DLC for a larger price?

I say if you have soul calibur 4 data it should be able to link your customs or clothing to SC5, i think thats what they need to do because the customizations for this game are not that great.

it was great when you had to play "quest mode" or beat the game with every character to unlock other characters & weapons instead of paying for them

Okay so I love the Soulcaliber series and played Soulblade also but why are game companies putting out "DLC" on release date. Are you really that money hungry that you will drop DLC on the date of the release instead of including it in the game? It's as bad as Capcom releasing the same game with more characters and maps only 4 or 5 months after the release of the original game. I play games all the time but seriously, it's getting old and is pretty messed up.

I'm one of those crap soul calibur players that really doesn't care about unlocking things, I just simply want to play the game.

Although I agree that maybe they are taking this "DLC" thing a bit too far [consider that it's announced AND planned before the game's release and doesn't include major things like characters and stages], the amount of money being asked for is rather minuscule and playing a game 100,000 times on the hardest difficult just to unlock an outfit can become tedious and annoying.

Bittersweet really. No need to get your panties in a bunch like many of you. But alas, gamers love to complain.

For a game like Soulcalibur which has been known for having tons of alternate costume options for their characters, to now charge people for what would've been earned through simple gameplay would mean a lot of money for the franchise. Which in this case I really can't blame them for doing.

It's only a 3 bucks for all three packs, which is really cheap when compared to most dlc costing on average is 10-15 bucks. You won't have to beat the game 9,000 times in order to earn all their alternate costumes, which for me is great because that gets really tedious after a while, especially when you're playing with a character you normally would play with but you want to earn all of the outfits. Finally, and let's be honest here...it's not like the game is going to be breaking any sales records. So every little bit counts.

But of course, people will gripe about it and say it's a stupid idea and another attempt made by corporate fat cats to take people's hard earned red bull money, because seriously that's about all you can buy for 3 bucks these days. But griping and complaining aside, once the game is out people who like the game will play a few games online, realize that they feel a certain way about not having Ivy in a thong bikini like the 13 year old japanese kid they're playing against, and like clockwork they will pony up the 240 points for all 3 costume packs...

    ...or maybe that's just me.

"BONERJAM" hit the nail on the head. Once upon of time you could earn the stuff games label "dlc" nowadays

I like the idea of smaller but much cheaper DLC. I'm sure they'll offer a discounted pack with all 3 later, perhaps after all 3 are out. Man I am so pumped for this game!
