The powers-that-be at GameFly can breathe easy again. Last year, Netflix announced plans to start offering video game rentals alongside its DVD and Blu-ray movies/TV offerings. It was part of the company's ill-conceived plan to break into two, with all of the rent-by-mail business going through the newly established Qwikster.
Well, Qwikster sputtered out rather quickly as Netflix subscribers of the world collectively said "wait, what?" after the change was announced. Now it seems that the game rental plans are done as well. Company CEO Reed Hastings confirmed the news to investors earlier this week, The Verge reports. Blu-rays and DVDs will still be a thing, but you'll have to look elsewhere for game rentals by mail.

I tried gamefly and I enjoyed it. however I do have blockbuster online and when they announced they would ship games via the mail I dropped gamefly quickly. LOL I don't rent games often and my subscription is cheap since I am a part of a previous subscriptions that is not offered anymore.

Well, after cancelling my full Netflix subscription due to their ineptitude, this past year.... them getting video games would have been THE ONLY thing that would have brought me back.
Like other posters said, I had a 2 day turn around on Netflix (they have a distribution center here in MN) and about a 7-10 day turn around on Gamefly (the one that mails to me is all the way in TX). I eventually cancelled Gamefly due to this.
If Netflix would have done games it would have been a no brainer to sign back up to Netflix.
If I owned stock in this company I'd be FUMING right now!!!!!

I prefer using Redbox to rent video games. Though more expensive than Gamefly I can get the game I want when I want it. I love buying used games but if Microsoft has their way, they may kill this market if rumors about the Xbox720 are true. If that turns out to be the case, I may have to reacquaint myself to the outdoors AAGH!

well ill stick with buying used and new games from my local gamestop the reasons being
1. i dont have to wait
2.i dont have to wait 3-4 days just to find out some games have disk read errors via xbox 360
3.dont have to pay a heavy monthly subscription ontop of my mmos
4.can trade it back within a week for a game of equal price
5.gamefly is extreemly pricy

They sure do love making stupid decisions. Their financial adviser must have bought his degree.

... and there goes the last desire for me to keep my Netflix subscription. I was holding on, hoping for game rentals, but now it's used games or nothing.

I am a fan of game fly, but they take at least a week and half to turn around a game exchange. Netflix has the delivery system down to an art. I wish Netflix would just buy out Game Fly. Greedy corporate merges can be a good thing sometimes.
I would love a download system that let me play the game I want, delete it, and download the next game. That is the future of game distribution in my opinion. As the average gamer matures and has less time to play per day they will not need a library of disc. Play the game of your choice and move on to the next one.
