Resistance Series Is Over For Insomniac Games

Resistance 3

Last year's Resistance 3 capped off the trilogy that Insomniac Games started in 2006 with PlayStation 3 launch title, Resistance: Fall of Man. That story is now concluded and while it's likely we haven't seen the last of the series, Insomniac's part in telling the ongoing story has ended.

That confirmation comes from company CEO Ted Price during an interview with VG247 at the Game::Business::Law Summit at Southern Methodist University. "We won't be making any more Resistances," he said matter-of-factly.

...what, you want more? That's all he had to say! It doesn't leave a lot of room for interpretation either. Insomniac won't be making any more Resistances. Period. How does that make you feel?

There was something unique about the Resistance franchise. It had a serious tone that actually made you care about what happened in the world. The unique weapons Insomniac games comes up with are fun. The co-op in R2 was epic. And the large scale battles in single player made it feel like a real warzone. Anyway, Nihilistic studios is going to continue the franchise for Sony.

THE RESISTANCE WAS NOT AS GOOD AS A FRANCHISE AS ALOT OF PEOPLE WOULD MAKE YOU THINK IT WAS IN THE FIRST PLACE

How is this a surprise to anyone, even without a confirmation from INsomniac? If you saw the ending to Resistance 3 then you'd know that the main force of Chimera on the planet were defeated, Earth's climates were restored to normal patterns and that was evidently all there was left to tell.

Resistance 3 was clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel as it was with such a brief campaign with a very straight forward story, and their multiplayer beta was horrid (didn't even bother to play the release version). It was fun while it lasted. I'm glad Insomniac has made the smart decision and has officially laid this franchise to a respectable resting spot instead of dragging it on and on like Hollywood tends to do with its movie series.

They will most likely come back, at some point down the road.

This is the worst news I read all day, hopefully they at least help with other studios in production of Resistance title spin offs. Its sad to see my favorite franchise of all time go away.

I thought this was the ps3 version of halo I guess not. Ps3 owners don't buy fps games.

Good, they should have ended it after Resistance 2. Resistance 3 had absolutely nothing to do with what happened in the first 2 games, except for chimera, so therefore it was not a true sequel to the series. It was more like Retribution, a game in the same world but with nothing to do with the actual plot of the original. R3 should have been called something like "Resistance: All or Nothing" or whatever would be a good name for it, just not Resistance 3, as it was not a true sequel.

Doesn't matter to me. Never played a Resistance game. I'm very interested in Overstrike though. One main character reminds me of Cate Archer from NOLF.

Resistance one was great. Seems many people had some issues with R2 but I found it quite enjoyable. With that said, for some reason I got about half way through R3 and just stopped. It wasnt a bad game. Looked like some care went into the design, but for some reason I just didnt care anymore. Kinda odd.

I'm not too disappointed. I think that the series was good for a trilogy setup. I am glad that, unlike Halo and so many other game series, they are not dragging out. I hate when companies do that.

Its to bad really, the franchise never really found its audience and that is to bad since it was actually a pretty good. I think R3 was the best of the series but I though the ending was bad and a missed oppertunity, I was hoping the Chimera would wipe out humans.

That's disappointing but understandable. The franchise was my favorite FPS, but it did struggle to find its niche, especially with R2. R3 was amazing, and even though it returned to the franchises roots, I think a lot of people had already abandoned the series. A huge year of releases didn't help either.

The series had so much potential and a lot of room to expand. There were so many unanswered questions. I was hoping a we'd get a game that would culminate with us going to the Chimeran home world and defeating the true Chimera. I guess that's not completely out of the picture, but without Insomniac at the helm, I won't be quite as interested.

With Insomniac Burbank working on Overstrike, I wonder what the NC studio is up to and when we will find out? As a huge fan of Insomniac and the PS3, I hope this isn't just another small step for them in distancing themselves from creating awesome exclusives for Sony.

well i guess im the only one whos crushed by this. i didnt feel like the 3rd one ended anything! still a crap ton of questions. none of the history was really explained...who Hale was hearing was never explained, the threat wasnt ended.....but i think the series stopped after 2, cause they killed off Hale, and stopped with SRPA. the story still has a ton of life in it. they went in the right direction with the weapon upgrades and stuff. Resistance 4 would have been an amazing game! AND if they put back in online coop, it could have been the best game in the series (which imo is held by R2) i think stopping it is a really bad idea on Insomniac/Sony's part

deeply saddened by this. i really wanted an R4 on the Ps4. if another company were to pick this up, i hope they do it justice cause there is still a ton to be done with it, but im not holding my breath "/

Resistance was a good game until they put the health bar back in Resistance 3 and pretty much i don't like Resistance 3 because of that but i do hope Insomniac make more great games for ps3.
