Wii U Global Release This Holiday, Nintendo Confirms

Wii U E3 2011

When Nintendo revealed the Wii U at E3 last year, the announcement came with confirmation that the console was targeted for release later on in 2012. The subsequent absence of updates on the developing console and its launch windows games have since led many to believe that those release plans were maybe a bit too optimistic. Nintendo is still right on target though, as company president Satoru Iwata confirmed to Reuters.

The Nintendo boss confirmed that the Wii U will be coming to the United States, Europe, Australia and, of course, Japan in time to take advantage of the end-of-year holiday spending. That's the extent of the news (seriously-- it's a REALLY short article), but it should bring hope to fans who may have been starting to lose the faith.

I'm a gaming fan in general, regardless of system. So I'm for sure getting it day one. As I will the next Microsoft and Sony systems... They each will have something on the table to enjoy and experience that the others won't..

Nintendo has always been the unconventional contender, so I'm always excited to see what they're gonna do, even if the idea is a fail.. Though I think this Wii U (or whatever the name will be when it drops) is going to be a great successor to the Wii. Especially if they hold true to the fact that they are going to give more support/attention to 3rd party developers...

And we all know ANY first party Nintendo game will blow most other games/franchises out of the water. That fact alone is enough to warrant a purchase...

To all the Nintendo haters out there: Imagine the state of the video game industry or where it would be without the the original NES...

It remains to be seen what games this will be released with. That will be a very deciding factor in December whether I will spend cash for this Wii 2 er... U.

I was skeptical of the Wii when it was first announced then I caved in and bought one. Its definitely a fun. Now I find myself questioning things again. Like last time, I will wait and see how things go first and buy when its convenient. If its anything that I truly hate about this console is its name. Please Nintendo change the name.

Am I the only one who gets a sense that they are rushing to make holiday money? They just announced it last summer, and it seems like they are going to shoot themselves in the foot again with the hardware specs.

I used to love Nintendo, I still love most of their franchise games. They have let me down so much this past console cycle. Why can't they learn from their mistakes? Why?????

Waiting on price. Nothing else is going to tell me if I'm interested in getting this for the kid or not.

Nintendo sucks these days... they should take their giant tablet controller and leave the gaming business. Leave it to the pros at Sony

The Wii U doesn't sound terrible in itself; I'm just afraid there won't be any good games for it. If they can get developers on board like Sony has with the PS Vita then I'll be on board. Until then I'm just gonna wait it out to see what happens...

I'm not too impressed by this I mean all my life I've been A Nintendo fan but sense the Wii came Out I've been pushed away from Nintendo So I don't think I'm gonna get this, Unless the Next SSB (Super smash bros.) or the next Sonic adventure comes out with it then I will but other then that NO thanks.

Is it even ready to be released by the end of 2012?

I mean, just a couple of months ago weren't developers complaining that they couldn't make games for it?

They're saying the 720 will have a Radeon 6670 and this will have a Radeon 4850; Why would they give the Wii-U a GPU not capable of DX11, And the 720 a GPU capable of DX11, but not powerful enough to do anything with it? I know i'm gonna get thumbs down for this, but its the truth look it up yourselves.

Still an interesting piece of tech (which I will not lie), but I am still skeptic of what it can do. Yes we all know it has better shade effects, polygon counts, etc. (graphics), but I am still waiting for the games that'll be out with it. The future can only tell, huh?

Nintendo's biggest downfall.....you should be able to take the controller on the go, miles if not thousands of miles away from the console itself.
