If you like to keep to the middle of the track in BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic then you'll be happy to know that players who choose neutral dialogue options will eventually be getting rewards just like their Light and Dark side counterparts.
According to game director James Ohlen, "We have a system for people who want to stay more in the middle. But that’s something coming up in a later release. It’ll let you play a ‘Gray Jedi’. Basically you don’t need to go to the extreme to get rewarded. You can have a different playstyle.”
BioWare doesn't want to force people to play a specific way. Once they implement this change, neutral players will get access to exclusive loot and perks just like Light Side and Dark Side players. Luckily they're taking the "Grey" road seriously and are already considering the end game impact of adding in a third morality system.
“We were careful about the rewards for Light Side and Dark Side as well. We don’t want to make them too impactful on the endgame because it would mean players wouldn’t be allowed to join an Operation unless they were absolutely Light Side and or Dark Side,” he said.
I think that it's really cool of BioWare to implement this additional morality incentive. In a game like SWTOR where your choices really do have consequences. It's nice to know that BioWare is making it so you can honestly choose whatever you want and you'll still be up to par with those who just want to play for the best loot, like myself.
While there's no ETA on when this change will take effect, when it does come in to play will you be playing on the Light, Dark, or Grey side?

This is great, especially since I want to play a bounty hunter who likes the Sith Empire's credits, but doesn't much care for their politics.

I'm glad that BioWare is following through with what they promised back in closed beta. I felt forced into picking purely Light choices on my characters because I knew I had to get my Light side ranking high enough to purchase high quality gear. Once they implement this "gray" morality, people can pick whatever conversation option makes sense to them, no matter what morality it might be.

Its about time. honestly I dont find the rewards for light/darkside too op or anything, they could actually use a boost. but neutral should have rewards of its own so you can feel free to make light and darkside choices like an actual person would without feeling like youre being left out or punished for it

Seems to me bounty hunters and especially smugglers should be neutral from the get go. Just because Han Solo was a smuggler & a good guy doesn't mean that all smugglers are good guys. For the most part, both are just out for cash, regardless of who's supplying it.

I enjoyed playing darkside on my siths, but from what I hear, light side choices also lead to interesting results down the line - as far as story goes, I mean. As for gear, the differences are minimal, but it's nice to see they're giving the option for neutral characters to have some sort of benefit.
Right now, the dark side seems to have the upperhand, with actual cosmetic differences in their character in regards to corruption, etc. But what I'd like to see in the future are the abilities to influence your companion's alignment (though I'm aware there are moments when you can turn a certain companion darkside, without mentioning spoilers, it would be nice to continue this pattern with other companions, including their own corruption. Perhaps have your favorite companion, through much convincing or after obtaining enough affection, start to agree more with your chosen "style" of mercilessness or good)
