I’m going to tell you a story about an impressive, overclocked computer for gamers that I saw at CES 2012, so sit back and enjoy the tale of Origin’s new Genesis PC, a computer so powerful, it bends both space and time. Well, maybe not that powerful, but definitely powerful enough to play Crysis 2 at full settings.
Boasting 12 Gigs of RAM, an EVGA 3GZB GTX580 graphics card, and running an Intel Core 3960X 3.3 GH Hex-Core processor overclocked to 5.3GHz-5.7GHz, the Genesis is one powerful machine. So powerful, it’s cooled to -40 degrees by Origin’s “Cryogenic Liquid Cooling” system, presumably to prevent it from spontaneously bursting into flames.
In trying to express the power of the PC, Origin COO and co-founder Hector Penton, and CEO and co-founder Kevin Wasielewski quoted stats and benchmark test numbers that were surprisingly impressive.
“It’s running at a stable 5.7 gigahertz,” Penton, explained, dumbing it down for a console gamer like me.
“That’s great,” I answered, “But can it play Farmville?”
“It can play 10,000 instances of Farmville at once,” Wasielewski told me.
“It’s the fastest system you can commercially buy,” Penton said.
“Do you think it’s the best computer in the world?” I asked.
“We don’t think it’s the best computer in the world,” Penton said, “We know it’s the best computer in the world.”

As you might expect, this kind of awesomeness won’t come cheap. The lowest priced model is available starting at $4,499.00, but a system like the fully tricked out model on display at CES would likely run you closer to twice as much. Ten grand is a lot for a computer, but if 9,999 of your friends each put in a dollar, everyone could play Farmville at once! Genesis will be available in late Q1 of 2012.
If you’re of a bargain conscious gamer, don’t worry: Origin has a PC for you as well. The company features less exotic lines of desktops, and their Eon gaming laptop will set you back a pretty reasonable amount, starting at around $1500 bucks.
Another Origin announcement: The company is offering 24-7 tech support for all its customers, old and new. "Origin PC continues to lead the industry by becoming the first and only boutique system builder to provide free U.S. based lifetime 24/7 technical support," the company said in a statement. "Anytime customers have a question about a game, application, or hardware component; Origin PC will be there to help."

but its also named Genesis which reminds me of
the Sega Genesis (best console ever gameplay wise)
it looks like it has 4 580s, which is like 2 590s,
im just wondering why it didnt overkill it on RAM..
also has a beast of a processor, om nom nom.
brb need to win the lottery.

$10,000 for a PC?
Why???
Because this is America Dammit.

The one major issue with building a PC is research (at least for me it was) and then choosing what components you want to put into your PC based on your buget. I start with the motherboard. Once that process is done everything else takes little time. I save a lot of money building it myself. I priced compared and I saved about 2000 dollars.
Still, there are cons to building your own PC such as returning damaged parts. I had to return my motherboard off my lastest build 3 times and replace the ram though the manfacturer. I have built a dozen PC before and this was the first time I had to return parts.
Unless you are a repair or someone who builds PC for a living you will have a lot of research to do since PCs change a lot. The last built before this one was a single 64 core built. I do repairs but building a PC takes more care since you have to make sure everything works together and despite the BS about PC being dead. There are a lot of compents to compair: motherboard, cpu, ram graphics cards, hard drive, dvd/blue burners, graphics cards.

Build your own PC is cheaper then a company like Dell or w/e. Tiger Direct<------ Why pay 2-4 grand when you can build your own for 900 or so. All you need is a Graphics card and the GTS 250 1GB is pretty cheap, It may be old but I am still using mine to play Skyrim on medium/high with NO LAG!

We don t think it s the best computer in the world, Penton said, We know it s the best computer in the world.
Yeah... about that. You have four of the hottest last gen cards jammed into that chassis on stock air cooling. Guess you don't mind the melted plastic.
Ditch the phase change cooling and CPU superclock, water cool everything and then we'll talk.

You would have to be mildy retarded to buy that. All those threads are going to do nothing for most applications and as they call it a gaming machine most games are not even optimized for more than 2 threads yet because that is what most people run. I have an i7 2600k running at 4.8 ghz stable 2xgtx 580s and i can max any games i run at 2560x1600 which is much higher than most people game at. My computer i put together for like a third of that price and it does not have an ugly case with it either.

They should have asked Epic if they could try running the Samaritan Demo on it.

My 2003 Suzuki GSF1200 Bandit only cost $3000, and it's a lot faster.
herpymcderpy
haha yeah or you could just build one for less than half the price, save money, and get a good gaming/video computer without any unnecessary hardware.
Aaron82
He said "likely" to cost twice as much. Stephen, you should know better than to get them in a tizzy with speculation.

oh god anyone who buys this is an idiot. It's not hard to build a computer yourself and most of the hardware in this thing is very unnecessary unless you are doing some heavy duty work. You can get a i5200k, 560 ti(x2 if you think it's necessary), a cheap mid tower, psu, 16 gigs of ram(although eight is just enough),etc and if you took it a step further and got twin 7970s in crossfire and possibly upgrade the cpu; You can get a nice gaming desktop that runs smoothly and COST a lot LESS. Have you ever played with legos? You know insert part A into Part B? That's kind of what building a pc is like.

Looks like it has more than one GTX580 in there lol. It has 4 of them
readthefineprint
It should say..."Fastest computer you can buy, since you're too lazy to build something faster."
ibloodheuer
I think that my computer is a "little bit" faster...
2x XEON
2x QUADRO
64GB RAM
MacPro is the best one...
wesroxs2012
if i had 10k to throw around id buy it

beautiful set up and "Anytime customers have a question about a game, application, or hardware component; Origin PC will be there to help" they Ballsyiesty statement of 2012
HavokBC
best computer in the world?.. maybe commercially.. but no.. the most powerful computers in the world are massive and are found in science labs.
Rhawk187
We built our own with 32GB of RAM and 2 580s. CPU clockspeed wasn't as high, but it really doesn't matter that much anymore. 2 Quad Core hyperthreaded (16 virtual cores). Less than $3000. Don't get ripped.
Helloder
the fastest computer you can buy retail at 3x the price you can build it yourself for
Caseyman5000
@aodmisery
The title isn't misleading at all
you didn't expect "the fastest computer you can buy" to come cheap did you?
Sick set up for sure
