Microsoft LogoIt's no secret Microsoft will release another gaming console eventually. That's what companies do, they release better, faster, usually more expensive, versions of their products at a steady rate. Rumors have been circulating for the past few weeks about Microsoft's plans to announce said console at this year's CES.

Microsoft has yet to announce anything on the console front but it has been announced they will be working with Amtel to launch a new generation of touchpad controllers. Gamers, meet the maXTouch S. The maXTouch S is said to be Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 certified. The controller series will offer an intuitive touchscreen, "diagonal for products including smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers and other applications." Could those other applications be gaming?

You can check out the maXTouch S official press release for more information.

We're not trying to insinuate this tablet will be the next controller but it certainly makes you wonder. Now that Microsoft has a relationship with a company capable of delivering exactly what they need, what's stopping them? A touchscreen controller, in theory, could unite Microsoft's mobile branch with it's gaming branch. (Synergy and stuff.)

What do you think? Will tablet controllers come with the next Xbox console?

yes finally xbox players and all are realizing that xbox took ideas from other company like the kinnekt everyone said it was new and original even tho the eye toy came out for the ps2 long time ago... and G4 will in fact (if wiiU and new xbox comes out around the same time) will praise the xbox for far crappyer controller(if not equal) than the wiiU and this is why G4 loses many many fans... and lastly hard core games are playable with toutch screen hard core games aren't only FPS and hack and slash games

yea and as soon as i drop the damn thing the screen is gonna break and im going to be out 80+ dollars so their better not be a wiiu rip off or im moving to sony (extremely reluctantley) I love the xbox but if the controller is more of a tablet than a actual controller than I refuse to use it or anything that is usually reserved for people who play angry birds when I play halo and gears of war.

I don't personally care all THAT much for touchpads, so I kinda hope they wouldn't go that way...

If so I better save my money. I have a feeling that would make the new console a little pricey.

I think it could be inderesting, but the fact that microsoft is (possibly..) integrating all their systems into one could cause major problems when they decide to only update one. I feel that if they wanted to put this as a secondary controller for the less-hardcore gamer, it could be another huge innovation into an entirely new era of gaming.

I'm moving to Sony from Microsoft next generation anyways. MS has effectively destroyed Rare and is doing exactly what I hate about Nintendo right now.

Nope. While the next console may have some sort of touch screen application, there is no way it's going to be a dedicated console. Even entertaining the idea is a foolish venture.

If it was a secondary controller that had touch screen to navigate through your Xbox that will be okay. If Microsoft is actually building their own TV service that goes with the new Xbox than it would be nice as well to use it as an remote. And if it was only used for games that wanted to use it than that's fine. As long as they give us the default controller so people who don't want to use the touch screen won't have to. I am pretty sure they wouldn't do this because if anything they would have learned from Nintendo making all their games for the Wii motion controlled. And that was one of the biggest issues since not a lot of developers made games that used motion control well or they might have not even wanted to use the technology in the first place. And I don't think touch screen joysticks work very well. I also wouldn't want to play with a controller like the WiiU with the giant screen in the middle and the analog outside. One it might be heavy and two it doesn't look very comfortable since you won't be able to wrap your fingers around it like you can on the bottom of a Xbox or PS3 controller. I really just see it as an add-on like the Kinect that can be bought seperatly or in a bundle with an Xbox.
