It's no secret Microsoft will release another gaming console eventually. That's what companies do, they release better, faster, usually more expensive, versions of their products at a steady rate. Rumors have been circulating for the past few weeks about Microsoft's plans to announce said console at this year's CES.
Microsoft has yet to announce anything on the console front but it has been announced they will be working with Amtel to launch a new generation of touchpad controllers. Gamers, meet the maXTouch S. The maXTouch S is said to be Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 certified. The controller series will offer an intuitive touchscreen, "diagonal for products including smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers and other applications." Could those other applications be gaming?
You can check out the maXTouch S official press release for more information.
We're not trying to insinuate this tablet will be the next controller but it certainly makes you wonder. Now that Microsoft has a relationship with a company capable of delivering exactly what they need, what's stopping them? A touchscreen controller, in theory, could unite Microsoft's mobile branch with it's gaming branch. (Synergy and stuff.)
What do you think? Will tablet controllers come with the next Xbox console?

If it's for the next Xbox, then it better not be the main controller. Maybe for an add-on for the 360, (like a Kinect) but I love my 360 controller.

I think if anything they are insinuating that there will be a cross platform tablet that will integrate in to use not only for the xbox (720?) but it will also be a full featured tablet that runs windows 8 and can work with other windows 8 products. IMO I would have to think that the next generation xbox will likely be either windows 8 or some form of it.
Similarly I would think that you will see the integration of their cell phones and other handheld devices, so that when you buy a peripheral you get to use it across the whole family of products I would think most people would like this.

i think its complete BS because all the accessories are probally going to be expensive as hell and its hard enough to buy games as it is i think microsoft should cancel this idea and move on to something better.

Are people really thinking Microsoft is going to make a tablet for their next home console? It might be for a portable console, but definitely not for the next home console. They are called rumors for a reason, they are unconfirmed BS 90% of the time.

I hope its for a handheld system rather than something similar to the WiiU.

Why hasn't anyone come to the conclusion that this may be referring to Microsoft's first handheld system. It makes sense with the success of the 3DS and the Vita is coming. Also, it would be something new and innovative for Microsoft. And if it's powered by windows 8 imagine the possibilities

Why do people bash new ideas, and end up eating their words? The second screen, a touch screen on the Nintendo DS was something some people "couldn't understand", "saw no use for", or called a "gimmick". They ate their words, looking as stupid as anyone could look. The Wii-mote and the Wii in general was criticized in a similar fashion. Those people ate their words. Now along comes the idea of a touch-screen controller (again initiated by Nintendo) followed by the fools who call themselves "gamers" saying things like "a touch screen controller is a joke". My question is, do these people EVER, EVER get tired of being wrong and just plain stupid? Nintendo and Microsoft (if they make one) will sell millions of these and the fools will once again be chomping away on their own ignorant words. Watch and see. It happens every time! (Yet some people just can't learn!)

Lol, how typical. When you can't sell anything and all your products suck, just steal from the competition and do it worse. That's the M$ way!

There needs to be a new console before people start jumping ship to PC gaming. Gaming on PC is more affordable now than it has ever been. You can create a PC to game beyond full HD graphics while staying on a small budget. The idea of using a tablet as a controller for all games is a complete joke. It would never catch on and if people had to hack it to use older controllers they would. It's a joke to even propose the possibility even if you're not insinuating. It makes me wonder if Nikole Zivalich is even a gamer of any sort. Majority of top selling games are fairly fast paced or fast paced enough to make a tablet not viable for controlling anything. Maybe just a $200-300 remote control to scroll through netflix, not likely to catch on. Maybe something new that is microsoft related so it must be used in everything microsoft. G4TV owes me a good article for me wasting my time here.

Nothing is more frustrating to me than trying to play a shooter game on my smart phone. I think it could work, but I don't think it's a good idea. It will likely make accessories a lot more expensive. Gaming is an expensive hobby already. Just take a step back, Microsoft. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Xbox sucks!!!! :3 I only buy Sony gaming systems never owned an Xbox and never will >:D

No comment on whatever it is but that is one of the dumbest names for a device, ever

If it is windows based expect to see bugs, crashes, viruses and instability and lots of hacking... Microsoft sucks...
Goddhand
Merging the tablet/smartphone with the PC market is the next logical step. Nintendo is doing it wrong, we'll see what M$ comes up with.
GoreMaker244
it's probably not going to be a controller for a console. it seems more like they may be gearing up to come or with a windows phone centered around games.
Jimi0088
no since they have a lot invested in the kinect

G4 will in fact (if wiiU and new xbox comes out around the same time) will praise the xbox for far crappyer controller(if not equal) than the wiiU... and finally xbox players and all are realizing that xbox took ideas from other company like the kinnekt everyone said it was new and original even tho the eye toy came out for the ps2 long time ago ... and lastly hard core games are playable with touch screen hard core games aren't only FPS and hack and slash games
GreenFudge
