Marvel: Avengers Alliance is the name of Marvel's first Facebook game, set to launch within the next three months. It will be developed by Playdom, the creators of successful Facebook games like Gardens of Time, Deep Realms, Sorority Life, and Wild Ones. Avengers Alliance will be a free-to-play strategy title that puts you in the shoes of a trainee in the world-police organization S.H.I.E.L.D. and it'll be up to you to assemble a team that can take a threat called "The Pulse."
TQ Jefferson, Vice President of Games Production at Marvel Entertainment discussed some of the characters we'll get to interact with in Avengers Alliance, saying, "You'll see not just the core Avengers, but characters like Wolverine, Spider-Man and characters from the Fantastic Four. When the Avengers call, everyone comes." Avengers Alliance will feature more than 100 characters from the Marvel universe.
The game will start by letting you customize your character with accessories and weapons and then throw you in to the action by teaching you how to fight. "That character will go right into the game and fight alongside Spider-Man or Thor and Black Widow," Jefferson says. "We want to make the game approachable."
As you play Avengers Alliance you'll level your heroes up and start to unlock special abilities. The game will use a microtransaction model, allowing players to accelerate quickly if they want to pay real money for the convenience. I'm a sucker for Facebook games and this one sounds promising.
