A thorough timeline in The Legend of Zelda series has been the topic of much debate, mostly between myself and anyone who has the misfortune of walking by my desk. I guess I'm not the only one who loses sleep over where Link's Awakening takes places in relation to Ocarina of Time since Nintendo has released Hyrule Historia, a Zelda encyclopedia, in Japan. Hyrule Historia deals with art work, lore and history of the games across all of the titles.
A noble hero has risen to the occasion and somehow got his hands on the book. He has revealed what he thinks is the official Zelda timeline. A slightly less noble (only slightly) Kotaku reader translated the posting to reveal, for us, the true Zelda timeline, allegedly of course. I watch a lot of Law & Order, I know how this goes.
The ALLEGED Zelda timeline:
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword >>> LoZ: Minish Cap >>> LoZ: Four Swords >>> LoZ: Ocarina of Time
Now after OoT, a split occurs showing three possible paths.
OoT >>> A Link to the Past >>> The Oracle of Ages/ Seasons >>> Link's Awakening >>> The Legend of Zelda >>> Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link
OoT >>> Majora's Mask >>> Twilight Princess >>> Four Sword Adventures
OoT >>> Wind Waker >>> Phantom Hourglass >>> Spirit Tracks
Well, that certainly cleared a lot up! I don't understand how some of this makes sense, but I accept it. Is this what you thought the Zelda timeline would be like?
Check out Siliconera and Kotaku for sweet inforgraphics with pretty images. I don't have Photoshop and am forced to use my imagination with this. Your pity means the world to me.
