A game breaking bug has been plaguing Zelda fans who are playing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Nintendo was quick to acknowledge the problem but a fix was not issued. Nintendo has issued "patches" for Wii games in the past but it's certainly not something they do often.
Today, Nintendo Japan has announced how they plan on fixing this problem. They are going to release an entire Wii Channel to repair the damage this bug has done to people's saves. The "Zelda Data Restoration Channel" (rolls off your tongue, doesn't it?) will be available via the Wii Shopping channel. A release date has not been announced.
Luckily, I did not encounter this issue. The internet would know my wrath if it did. For those who did run into this issue, are you satisfied with Nintendo's response? I don't think they're doing enough. It's 2011, there are ways to get content to gamers in a timely and convenient manner.
Making gamers go to the Wii Channel, to download a new channel, to, I assume, download the patch and follow a series of instructions, is asking a lot of gamers who bought a game and can't play it. It just seems like too many steps when the Xbox 360 and PS3 would be able to patch it upon popping the disc in.
Tips? Suggestions? Want to complain about how I'm a Skyward Sword hater? Find me on Twitter.

Seriously, g4tv is so full of unprofessional posts these days...
The channel does repair sour save data, so you can advance into the game.
Unfortunately, it IS a game breaking glitch, but running into it seemed really harder than this post makes it look, the one in Twilight Princess where you get eternally trapped inside the room with the broken cannon was somehow more threatening.
Anyways, I'm glad I didn't run into it, also I'm glad Nintendo released a way to fix it.

If I understand it correctly the channel is a save game repair tool (through which you send your save to Nintendo for fixing, which isn't the same as a patch.

Doesn't seem like many steps to me and it seems pretty simple to. I think you need to keep in mind that the difference between 360/PS3 and Wii is that generally Wii games are more polished and don't require some kind of patch as often as 360/PS3 game.
Next generation with the WiiU they should adopt a more seemless way to patch games, but I hope they keep the mind set of trying to get every bug out of the game before launch and not relying on patches like most companies.
Anyways I'm really more disgusted at other game companies that have been putting half finished games on disks. If companies continue to do this then I think the disk format should phase out.

I'm at this point in the game and I'm simply going to the desert last.

I don't think its a lot of steps to fix. To be honest, it sounds fairly easy to do. However this didn't happen to me as I am not all that close to the point where this happens. But if it did, I wouldn't care how many steps there were, Id just be happy that there was a fix.
