Square Enix revealed Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] at E3 in 2010, but the Nintendo 3DS title was only confirmed for a Japan release last month at the publisher's Jump Festa gathering. Most of you probably figured that a global launch announcement would be coming sooner or later, and now it's here: a morning press release confirms that Kingdom Hearts 3D is headed to North America and Europe sometime in 2012, presumably after Japan's planned March release.
The story follows series protagonists Sora and Riku as they visit the "Sleeping Worlds" in their pursuit of the title of Keyblade Masters. Recruiting entities known as Dream Eaters -- there are more than 50 -- is apparently a big part of the game; they come in both Spirit and Nightmare varieties, and they allow Sora and Riku access to various powers and abilities.
