GameFly has announced that their PC client has entered public beta, meaning that the Unlimited PC Play feature is now available, for free, to GameFly members.
The PC client features, "up-to-the-minute news and vibrant games pages with HD videos and screenshots. In addition to the ability to manage one’s GameQ, all GameFly members have access to hundreds of PC games they can play anytime, anywhere."
"We are thrilled to finally be able to open up the beta so anyone interested in video games can start using the client, and we are hard at work expanding our catalog of PC titles for our users to play for free in the Unlimited PC Play section," said Sean Spector, GameFly co-founder and SVP of Business Development and Content.
This launch marks the first time ever that GameFly has sold PC games, and they have over 1,500 for sale thanks to their acquisition of Direct2Drive. The problem is that most of the games are either ones that no one has heard of, or they're games that a lot of us want to forget. However, amidst all of the games that we aren't too excited about in GameFly's new service, there are quite a few that look really promising like Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed.
Are you going to be participating in GameFly's public PC beta, or are you just going to stick with Steam's Holiday Sale?

It's pretty much a worthless service they've added. I love the idea, but at this point, of the 5 games I've downloaded for Unlimited Play, 2 work. Red Faction 1&2 do not run, neither does Saint's Row 2. However, Velvet Assasin and Prison Tycoon 4 Supermax both run. I just got billed for a month of Gamefly, and if the service improves in that time, to a point where it makes sense to pay for it, I'll keep my membership. But if it stays the same or doesn't get much better, I'm cancelling Gamefly altogether, I don't use the rental service to justify 20 clams a month. Netflix need to implement a game division, they've got the formula down pat.

Sounds like they are trying to do what Game Tap did a while back.

At least it makes GameFly's service a bit more worth the price, but the selection sounds terrible and it still takes ages to get the games you want from their disc rental service. Pass.

I've had this for awhile, and although i am not very interested in most of the games available so far, i have to give kudos to GameFly for putting this out there and adding value to their service.
