X-Play has, once again, undergone hours and days of testing, in an effort to determine which of the games of 2011 had the right stuff to be considered the best in a number of categories. Rightful order has been restored.
I'm surprised they didn't have a Survival Horror category, or something along those lines. I would have liked to see Dead Space 2 or Dead Rising: Off the Record up there.

Not going to lie, Skyrim has its huge problems and glitches, and probably should have been released a month later, i would rather have had it later that the 11/11/11 release date and fixed glitches. But what allmost makes up for that is the constant release of updates and fixes for everything, which tells me that Bethesda Studios will see this through to the next TES6 instead of just ignoring the game when released. Thats one thing you wont get from skyword sword, now that its released thats it. No DLC no new quest, expansion of story lines, just thats it. Skyward sword is a GREAT GAME. But its similar to Mario, as new and exciting the enviremonts get the storyline and ending is very predictable, Zelda kidnapped, link out to find her, get master sword, beat boss, get new better weapon, than get specialized weapon and so on and so on. I am a die hard Zelda Fan, but im openminded enough to realize what Skyrim brings to the gaming industry. A vast open rich content filled world, options and choices that will affect the story line and how you do things, THE ABILITY TO JUMP OVER A LITTLE STUB, any thing you see in the worlds of skyrim, you can go. Sometimes i GET Annoyed at how far i have to travel in the game. Skyrims combat might be a tiny bit repetive but only if your melee combat and even then there a deeply satisfying kills and dual wielding baddass moments. Magically wise, with each new spell you just feel more and more powerful. You summon giant floating rocks that throw huge balls of fire and lighting at people. How much exciting can that get? And not just that, i can go do other things, i can do any quest anytime i want. Skyrim is a very open, linear game. What do i mean? For that time of linear game it is very open and huge but no matter what in the end, you still have options and choices that all end up in the same ending. Skyrim changes that you can do what you want wiht your little dragonbournes life. Kill him? Sure go ahead now thos epeople are your allies. Let him live? Than you make bitter enimies and must fihgt your way out and fight his enimies and befirend them and hunt. Point is while both are FANTASTIC GAMES Skyrim brings what skyward sword cant. THE END.

lol all the Mortal Kombat, Zelda and Non-CoD fanboys hating so hard. Skyrim is amazing, MvC3 has so much dynamic and variety that MK9 has failed to deliver since the first one, and CoD is... well... overhyped. Get over yourselves.

Best multiplayer MW3?? Really? So rehash scores big at G4 and apparently Activisions money goes further than just the review scores. Also a GOTY going to a game just out a month and is as buggy as the developers other games doesn't really qualify for GOTY especially with much higher quality, polished games out there. But apparently size and scope of story is the only thing that matter and since that is the case Star Wars the old republic should have won. Its been out for 5 days! I'm actually surprised you guys even remembered Portal 2 let alone Skyrim.

Wow, these awards are somewhat different from other sites/ VGAs. However, I agree on the most part. I'm pretty suprised gears got best shooter (totally agree!). I think best fighter should have gone to Mortal Kombat.
jajaja LOL I do like that every year everyone gets so extreme with these awards. To me awards don't define a game. If its good, then enjoy them.

Skyward Sword wasn't even in contention, now that's a slap in the face to all you Nintendo fanboys! Ouch!

Every game awards show this year sucked. My problem with them is the timing, Skyrim was less then a month out of release, and maybe if it had been delayed the poduct might not have been as broken as it was. Portal 2 was released in summer and so the advertsing dollars have long since dried up. With g4, spike, and the iga's having an attention span of about a month i was not suprised that games that came out 6 months ago were forgotten. Pushing a game that has the issues that Skyrim has is shameful. G4 should call on the developers to take their time and fix the bugs and glitches so a game dosn't brick consoles corrupt files and bogs gameplay down. If quality was in any way a factor in deciding these awards we as the gaming public might take them with more importance. As it is the industry is becoming a joke, the last time this happened E.T. came out for the 2600. Please stop being a joke. Xplay being cut down to 3 days a week and aots being cut to 4 your network is in danger of being the next mtv, and the last thing i want to see is the Kardashians or The Jersey shore.

Really? People ACTUALLY care this much about "game of the year"? Zelda and Elder Scrolls are two different gaming concepts. Zelda is a story and a mission, it has plenty of other things you can do, of course and you can play through it differently (The Oracle games had trillions upon trillions of different quests.) I have not even begun to get tired of Ocarina of Time after 7 years of owning it. And Elder scrolls is a sandbox where you can do random stuff, killing dragons, robbing people, whatever. Some people prefer that, and I don't have any issue with that. Come on now, we have too many varieties of hate and war, let's not bring itt into the gaming industry, can't we just agree that video games are awesome?

A well deserved win for Skyrim, but again does not surprise me. It's just such good game.
The only thing that suprised me was how strong Zelda did during the deathmatch, but afterall... no ip tracking, no email confirmation required to create a acc to vote ect...
