A group of some of today’s leading videogame music composers have teamed up to create a charity album of all-original music. Novum Initium features an unreal level of talent among its 18 tracks, including composers who’ve crafted sounds for games including Modern Warfare 3, Mass Effect, Star Wars: The Old Republic and more. The Feed has a preview of the music and info on how you can further support the charity.
Novum Initium is the kind of album that game music fans and aficionados of soundtrack music will utterly enjoy. The impressive list of those involved will give you a hint as to the quality of the original material they have created for this album. Check out the list of composers, along with the game titles they have worked on previously.

Among our favorite pieces is “Adagio Coda”, composed by Brian Tyler, whom you may recognize from his recent work on the music of Modern Warfare 3.
The album isn’t just a straight orchestral affair, either. Check out the guitar, electronica and orchestra mash-up of “The Maelstrom” (one of this writer’s favorite pieces on the album) composed by Singlefrequency & Chad Seiter (who worked on The Legend of Zelda™ 25th Anniversary Symphony).
Since many of you will soon be playing Star Wars: The Old Republic, we included a listen to a piece by Mark Griskey, who also worked on the music for SWTOR. This track, entitled “Espionage”, shows that perhaps Mark needs to lend his talents to a future iteration of the James Bond game franchise!
Novum Initium was put together to benefit the Sweet Relief charity organization, a group which supports career musicians struggling to make ends meet during illness, disabilities or age-related problems.
Co-produced by Sam “Mass Effect” Hulick, Novum Initium is available now as a digital download via Bandcamp, CDBaby.com, Amazon MP3, and iTunes. But, if you want to snag a physical copy of it and further support Sweet Relief at the same time, check out these auctions for limited edition CD copies of Novum Initium, which are autographed by all the artists involved in the project. Know that you are bidding against me for one of these, because when else are you going to be able to get autographs from an assemblage of talent such as this?

Well at least they aren't all crap games.
I kinda prefer original songs to licensed junk. Half the time I need to turn off the music when there's too much pop rock or rap.

The Maelstrom was excellent. Has a total post-rock feel to it. If I had the money to engage in a bidding war, I'd totally put up a bid for this album. As it is, I feel like a digital download will happen very soon.
