Bastion

This is kind of cool. Bastion, the great action-RPG that Supergiant Games released earlier this year, is now available for download in the Chrome Web Store. Simply fire up your Google Chrome browser, head to the game's product page and click to install. You'll be able to get started almost immediately, with the prologue available for free and the rest unlockable for $14.99. There's no gamepad support, but Bastion otherwise runs perfectly in your browser.

The game's launch is part of a larger Google initiative that involves convincing top game makers to take advantage of Chrome's ability to leverage a computer's graphics hardware in the browser. The company hosted a gathering yesterday, attended by VentureBeat, which featured an appearance by Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada. He was on hand to show off a browser version of Mini Ninjas; it's not yet available in the Chrome Web Store, but it's almost certainly a sign of things to come.

It's not quite cloud gaming, since the browser is still relying on your own hardware to make the game run. Being able to play right inside the browser is pretty neat though, provided you don't mind sacrificing the community features you'd get on your console or PC digital delivery client of choice.
