A game-breaking glitch has been discovered in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The problem occurs during the Song of the Hero quest. If players get the song of the Thunder Dragon from Lanaryu Mine, speak with the Goron, beat the Thunder Dragon mission, and then speak to Golo the Goron again, an error somehow occurs. If players complete this sequence of events, it will be impossible to continue the game with that save file.
Nintendo is aware of the situation but sadly there is not a solution, nor is there any indication a patch will ever be issued.
Keep reading for Nintendo's response and words of advice.
"We have been made aware of the issue that results in being unable to progress in the Song of the Hero quest. If the game has been saved after completing the sequence of events, it will no longer be possible to proceed through the game on that save file. The only options at that point are to either start the game over or to use an earlier save file to continue.
- The situation is caused by performing the following sequence of events during the Song of the Hero quest:
- At the beginning of the quest, go to Lanayru Desert to retrieve the song of the Thunder Dragon.
- In the Lanayru Mine, speak with Golo the Goron.
- Complete the Thunder Dragon's event, and receive his song.
- Before heading to the forest or volcano regions, speak with Golo in the mine again.
- At this point, the forest and volcano events will no longer occur, making it impossible to continue.
Solutions:
This issue WILL NOT OCCUR if the Fire and Water Dragon songs have already been collected before collecting the Thunder Dragon's song. Talking to Golo in the Lanayru Caves will also NOT trigger this issue.
If the game has been saved after completing the sequence of events, it will no longer be possible to proceed through the game on that save file. The only options at that point are to either start the game over or to use an earlier save file to continue.
I wish I had a better answer, but I'm afraid there currently is no other fix available. I can assure, however, that we are documenting all feedback we receive on this issue. Thank you for your patience and support.
Sincerely,
Sharon Matheny"
Needless to say this is an unfortunate situation for Zelda fans. I'm a little disappointed Nintendo isn't being more proactive to resolve this issue. I hope a patch is issued quickly. Having to delete your save file and start anew is not acceptable in my book.
What do you think?

I'm not sure if this is possible since I'm not at this point in the game yet, but You could just NOT talk to golo the whole time you're there.

I'd like to know who found this out first. That is actually pretty precise set of steps to get the glitch to happen and now how many of us who didn't do it will. I am at the 2nd to last guy and I would hate to have to restart from the begining.

From what it sounds like talking to Golo in the mines activates certain events and that there is a missing if else statement to prevent it from reactivating. But my guess is less than ~0.0002% have encountered this glitch.
Anyways I feel like G4 is exaggerating this problem to counter what Zelda fans had said in the Death Match, and a lame way to justify not letting it be a nominee for GOTY.

skyrim sucks

Reporting game breaking glitches and ways to work around them is important for video game news websites to do. It keeps people from getting frustrated with a really good and mostly glitch-free game. If Skyrim only had a glitch or two that consistently broke the game and forced the player to completely start over, I would expect the same treatment. That is not the case.
I do expect a more impartiality in my news stories, though I could understand the disappointment and anger if this glitch happened to Nikole. Zivalich. Did you experience this game breaking bug in your playthrough, Ms. Zivalich?

You have to try for this glitch. Skyrim, they completely delete you game file, fight an invincible dragon, etc. for no reason. Skyrim is great, stop hating so much on Nintendo, Zelda, Mario, Wii, 3ds, Ds, Dsi, etc. So biased, Skyward Sword is great.
Hoped it was 51% Skyward and 49% Skyrim, Batman Arkham City, or Uncharted 3.
Skyward for Deathmatch/Player's Choice GOTY Award and Skyrim G4TV GOTY Award.
People voted against Skyrim who are big Skyrim fans, and voted for Skyward in the deathmatches. I am a fan of Elder Scrolls and Skyrim.

Right this is such an easy glitch to get around all you have to do is do the quest normally but instead of talking to Golo again just skip that part and your in the clear very very nice and its a super ass easy solution that wont make you lose all your stuff that sounds really good to me

I think that its amazing how this comes out just after Skyrim lost in the Deathmatch.. But thats just me

this whole Skyward Sword vs Skyrim thing is worse than Battlefield vs Modern Warfare 3. Grow up. Skyrim is so broken on my computer that I can't even boot it right now.
Of course, I keep my save files, but I still need to take the time to reinstall and such. I haven't touched it in over a week due to that.
Luckily now that I've learned about this glitch thanks to G4, I can avoid this problem and not waste time trying to fix it.
Thank you G4 Staff for reporting on this. You have saved me time, and frustration with this bit of news.
Now if you could ban everyone who complains about Video Game death match out comes?

There doesn't need to be a patch, it's very easily avoidable. They should send a message to everyone A.S.A.P to their Wiis, 3ds, e-mail, etc.
Nice try G4. Skyrim has many glitches, invicible dragon.... nuff said.

wow.... how immature of people..... Skyrim fans are being jerks just cause it lost game of the year (or what ever it is XD) and same goes to SS fans ranting on Skrim the same way
im an SS fan, and i find stupidity in both sides. Both games are equally great, but it depends on the mind and eye of the fan. if your not a fa of skyrim/SS then thats fine, just please respect the thoughts of others and what they like...
now, OMFG ANOTHER GLITCH!??!?! XD good thing i learned bout this before gettin the game XD

@ Cruise: You are only right because of the last sentence. There is no comparrison, because teh Skyrim developers actually try and fix their bugs

You can break just about any game if you know what to do, this sounds like a glitch that would be incredibly difficult to catch so these comments about Nintendo "not being able to release a good game" are completely unwarrented.

This glitch only happens if you do things specifically, as the Skyrim nerds think they get their comeuppance. And just like all the Zelda fans bashing Skyrim.. Guess what guys?
Sometimes games just have glitches. Sure Skyward Sword isn't as grandiose as Skyrim but for fans of the Zelda series see how it's a beautiful and well crafted game and deserves praise. I give Nintendo credit, sure they aren't known for powerful consoles but they do have very artistic and entertaining titles on their systems and the games don't bug out all the time.
So if Skyward Sword has one glitch... And Skyrim has... Who knows how many, does that mean Skyrim shouldn't be game of the year either? Yeah didn't think so. Can't we just agree both are good games and stop bickering like 5 year-olds? G'damn.
CruzSchild
I love seeing Skyrim fans giving hate for a single glitch that may not even occur in probably 90% of games, whereas I've heard a ton of reports of glitches in skyrim requiring not only a full restart but in some cases restarting the game entirely, much similar to this one. Multiple glitches like that, in fact. This single glitch that essentially requires the stars to be aligned perfectly for a player is in no way comparable to Skyrim's glitches.
asthmagasm
So Zelda has one game breaking glitch and makes it as a Feed headline. Skyrim on PS3 is practically unplayable past a point, bug ridden, and up until today Bethesday has been silent to the criticism. Joshua E. Sawyer speaks out on the issue and it still isn't receiving any kind of negative press. What's it going to take for people to finally take the game off it's pedestal and admit while it's a damn good game, it's also embarrassing to say it's worthy of the praise it's getting. Hell, New Vegas got knocked for it's glitches and they weren't as bad as Skyrim's are.

I agree that this is further proof on Nintendo's downfall. Once they were king, but now they're falling apart. Extreme price cuts, focus on family friendliness and handhelds, outdated graphics, zero regulation on any sort of online play, and now this. Nintendo lost my interest long ago, but this is just pitiful.
azraeldethangel
its only one glitch and im sure the fans dont mind in skyrim there is a lot of them and i dont mind because i am a fan.
