Good help isn't easy to find, even in Skyrim. That's why we put together a Skyrim Companions Guide. But you might be thinking, "who are companions for?" While walking from town to town don't you wish you had someone to talk to? Are you lonely? Have you become accustomed to naming your weapons in a desperate and pathetic attempt at friendship? If you answered "yes" to these questions then I think it's time you considered a companion.
Companions, also known as Followers, travel with you across Skyrim. They will follow you into battle regardless of the circumstances. At any given time, you can have one human (or Skyrim equivalent) and one animal (dog).
Here are some of the perks of having a companion:
- Companions will aid you in battle.
- Companions can't die, unless you kill them.
- If you can't carry any more items, you can force them to carry your loot, like mules!
- Companions listen to your needs, wants, and most importantly, commands.
Now that you're ready to become "a pair" here is a list of your potential new best friends.

okay, first:
Brelyna Maryon - is female.
Second:
she's a Conjurer. she actually only casts one alteration spell( I forget if it's oak skin or stone skin). she summons familiars and fire atronachs, and occasionally will case fire bolt, but that's really hit. she spends more time in melee then anything.

I teamed up with Illia very early in the game ...about level 3 and shes been with me ever since ...now at level 32..
Not only is she a very useful and powerful companion ..but when she puts on the forsworn armour I gave her to carry ..
She looks 'HOT' ..a bit of a babe with attitude.
Now ..I have a problem ..
passing level 30 ..a new quest became available 'Boethia's calling.'
The Quest requires me to sacrifice my companion .
So I ask her to stay at home in Proudspire Mansion ..whilst I go and team up with another 'sacrificial' companion to complete the Boethia quest.
Not possible as even though Illia isn't present ..the scrificial companion refuses to come ..saying I already have someone ..
OK ..tried another angle ..
Told her that its time we parted ..to which she replies ..
I'm going home ...and I'll be there if you need me.
Problem is ..once shes been dismissed even though its temporary ..and for her own good...I can't hook up with her again...
She wont even speak to me any more...
Stupid game..
My only option is to load an earlier 360 game ..and NEVER do this quest.
Unless someone knows a way round this dilema ??
Not at all happy..as I've grown very fond of this moody sexy collection of binary digits with attitude.

For those of you complaining about your companion dying, you might want to know that in Riften, you can get a companion called Mjoll the Lioness who can never die because she is considered 'essential'.
PhillyBreezy
Two of my companions have died so far. Onmund and J'Zarho. I also hate that they follow so far away. Anytime I am wondering around Skyrim and encounter danger, they are usually nowhere to be found only to catch up once I have defeated my enemy. I kinda feel like they are pointless.
spzsam15
someone help me..... I can't get a companion for some reason, my last one died and now when I try to get another one I am told I already have one.........grrrrrr
kid_grim
who cares about companions, i lost Faendal early on somewhere, and can't get anyone else to join me because he's still considered my companion, but I'm a level 30 100% summoner, so i just get summon up two Atronach and I'm better off anyway.
Draconax
Sure wish I could make use of my companions, but being a mage, I always manage to kill my companions with fireballs. Sure wish there was no friendly fire on you companions so they wouldn't instantly die whenever I fight anything.
klanfett13
If a companion will not follow you, it might be that you have a quest that you need to complete with another person. Such as rescuing a brother or something like that. If someone is waiting at a quest marker that might be theproblem if buddies won't follow you.
MrKrinklez
People, just use the wiki, it's a lot more accurate than G4's Skyrim posts.

Can I make Lydia or any of my companions follow me with a horse,I have a horse but I don't know how to make them follow me with one too,or get on mine if that is possible, they just run.
Worldwearygamer
I once found a stray dog, but how do you get him to follow you? I tried offering meat to him, and that didn't work. After about five minutes, he suddenly attacked me, and I was forced to kill him...
Also, I bought the dog Vigilance later on, and he died while fighting two Hagravens (hate those things so much). I'm pretty sure I didn't hit him; I was shooting the enemies with my bound bow, and aiming very carefully... Then again, I did hit them with a "Fus Ro" shout (didn't have the "Dah" unlocked yet), and the dog might have been caught in the blast.

As a mage, I love Lydia. However, she never uses the weapon I want her to use. There are some times when she will rush into battle and forget about her bow - when clearly the person can not be reached. Then other times, she will retreat from battle and use that darn bow and let me tank... and I am a mage type player.
I finally gave up and NEVER let her keep any weapons except the one I want her to use and HOPEFULLY she will use that, since its her only weapon! I am also a crafter and an enchanter. Daedra (spelling) armor is better (but a bit heavier) than Dragon Armor. I just got a full set and enchanted +102% destruction magic mana reduction (which means its a 0 mana cost - I technically went overboard, but who cares), I also have +carry weight, mana reduction on conjuration and alteration (onlike like 56% or 66%). I love casting my disposable dreadlords. I think I will take Lydias weapons and shield and make her a bow user and let my disposeable dreadlords tank for me.

Not sure why the article says companions can't die, when they clearly can.. If they take too much more damage after they kneel, then they can get killed. Lydia, and Vorstag, the only ones I've had so far, have died a few times, resulting in having to reload a save just before (I save pretty often). Unless lying on the ground not moving at all, with the ability to click on them and obtain anything they have, is somehow not "dead". Usually when I see them keel over, I try to rush to them and use healing on them.
Wish they'd make them smart enough to use potions when low on health, because yes, I've given a handful of potions to them, and they don't use them (after looking in the inventory of their corpse, they're all there).
Xoiuocad
Woe to the traveler that doth not fast travel with yee companion, for they are easy prey to the dragons and Giants of the world. For a nonessential companion in skyrim, is a doomed one.
eelric64
i had lydia but she just disappeared during one of the quests and never came back. I married Aela the huntress and she is a better companion. She also invested in a store and now i receive half the profits from her when i ask how the store is doing.
BosnmateSWCC
Funny thing is. My wife has been playing this game and she has lost both of her companions to specific creatures throughout the game and they are completely dead. So she is on her third companion. So that whole only you can kill them is crap.
g4fan247
I have tried to get Lydia to come with me but she says that I already have someone with me. I don't have anyone with me.
Linruat
Where the hell does Illia go if she is dismissed?!??!?!?!?!?! ahhahgggggg
Slightly frustrated, I can't find her.
westraz
there is a rather ez one to get near the start of the game just after you get to the first town after all most being executed two men or in love with the same woman and ask you too sind her a latter that seem to be form the other man, give her the note of the other man that you wont (an elf or a imparl?) and you get an archer who rather week but a good one to start with
Jozura
the witch at the shrine of azura is beast, just don't give her any weapons, her spells are better
