South Park: The Game Announced -- To Be A BEEPing Role Playing Game By Obsidian Entertainment

Holy Sh*t! THQ has announced that they're going to be collaborating with South Park Digital Studios and Obsidian Entertainment to create South Park: The Game. For reference, Obsidian are the masterminds behind famous RPGs like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords and Fallout: New Vegas.

According to the press release, South Park: The Game is to be, "an epic role-playing adventure that will allow the user to befriend Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny and explore the quiet little mountain town like never before." It's scheduled to release for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in late 2012.

“Our goal is simple: to put creative talent first,” said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. “Matt and Trey are arguably two of the most important comedic talents of their generation. Bringing their vision of South Park to the interactive space is a dream-come-true.”

We'll get more information about South Park: The Game in the January issue of Game Informer, but until then I just have to ask, honestly, what the f@#!? Why are they deciding to put this game out now, especially when THQ didn't do so well last year and the South Park hype train has kind of left the station. Don't get me wrong, I love Butters just as much as the next guy, but this seems like a very questionable decision.

Where does Obsidian get this reputation of buggy games from exactly? Yes, I'll grant you that New Vegas was a little on the buggy side, but I spent over a hundred hours playing that game (both on 360 and PC) and didn't encounter that many more bugs than I do in Bethesda's games, which New Vegas must obviously be compared to, given it's style.

Kotor 2 wasn't buggy; it was horribly unfinished, but that's LucasArts' fault, not Obsidian's. ...to be honest, I can't think of any other Obsidian games at the moment, so yeah I'm wondering we everyone seems to be assuming that: Obsidian makes the game = it will be falling apart at the seams.

I don't care if this games gets a 3/5 I freaken love south park these are some of the most iconic characteres ever made and they finally get their own full fledged RPG created by a THQ and Obsidian Entertainment both incredeable game designers/creators. Lets be honest this game will probably be nothing but straight anarchy in the streets, Penn State jokes, extremely crude/funny as hell humor, a little racism, and over a million ways to kill kenny, everything you love about south park all rolled up into one insane RPG, let the count down begin.

Concept sounds kick-@$$, not really thrilled about Obsidian being in charge. Somehow there will be a bug where you can't kill Kenny...
Anyone remember the ultimate cheat code for the N64 game? "bobbybird", not sure how I really remember that...

Yep, I'm interested. Not sure what "train" you're talking about Leah. Hope that Kardashian or Jersey Shore RPG comes out soon for you before that "train" leaves the station.

Can't wait. N64 game was excellent, and with Obsidian at the helm this should be an amazing game, for what it is.

Please make this game along with L4D on PS3 and a new the warriors game or at least an HD version. South Park 64 was kickkkkk.....asssss. Only level that sucked was I think the last level with the Robot who recharged his health when it got low, being nearly invincible. Funny as hell game from start to finish. Yellow snow FTW!

If they can make a Broadway musical and have it be great. I think the game will be great as well. Just like everything else they have ever ventured into.

I have no idea how good it will be, but it will have the same effect LOTR or Star Wars has on a game: people will buy it.
