Now that the bulk of the holiday gauntlet is behind us, it's okay to start getting excited for early 2012 releases like Mass Effect 3. BioWare's trilogy-capping sci-fi RPG will be exploring plenty of new ground with features like online multiplayer and Kinect functionality, but fans might be pleased to hear that it will be looking back as well, at content that never managed to make its way into the previous releases.
Lead writer Mac Walters confirmed the detail to OXM in a recent interview, explaining that the unused story thread was originally conceived for the series' second game. "There was a Mass Effect 2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first Mass Effect that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it's made a resurrection in Mass Effect 3, so I'm happy, but I can't say what it is. That's the nice thing about trilogies, sometimes you get a second chance."
