According to a report from Eurogamer, future Xbox consoles may come bundled with the powerful Kinect 2. The Kinect 2 is rumored to offer improved motion sensing, voice recognition, and be powerful enough to read gamers' lips.
It's also said the Kinect 2 will somehow be able to detect when players are angry by tracking the pitch and volume of their voices and their facial characteristics. Could this mean my Kinect 2 will now notice when I'm getting pissed off that my stupid panda from Kinectimals Now With Bears isn't reacting to me when I try to get it to climb trees?
The new and improved Kinect 2 will be able to do all of these funs things by dropping its current USB controller interface restrictions and increasing the bandwith between the Xbox and the motion sensor.
"When Kinect launched in November 2010 the depth sensor was set at a 30 frames per second limit and a 320x240 resolution limit. The issue relates to the USB controller interface, which is capable of around 35MB/s, but it only uses around 15/16MB/s," said Eurogamer. "This artificial limit is in place because multiple USB devices can be used at once on an Xbox 360. Kinect 2, however, can feed the next Xbox more information, and thus a higher resolution CCD [charge-coupled device]."
I think the Kinect 2 sounds like it will allow for a larger variety in motion sensing games, but I'm still not really on board with the technology. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I honestly still like sitting and playing games with a normal controller. We'll have to wait and see the Kinect 2 in action, hopefully during CES 2012 this year.
Are you excited for the Kinect 2 based on what you've read about the device so far?

I'm trying to figure out how M$ is going to make a more powerful console when they still have problems with their current one.
Kinect sounds like it could be fun but I have my 360 hooked up to the same screen as my computer and I sit close like a desktop computer , will it work at close distance ?

The Kinect is awesome. I wasn't much of a fan of it when it first released, but I didn't give up on it. Now, slowly but surely it's more intergrated with my dashboard, and when the update finally happens we can really see what the Kinect can do...for now.
I just picked up Kinect Sports Season 2, and with that game I fell in love with my Kinect finally. Darts is addicting, The tennis and Football games are both awesome, and Skiing is good too. The response time isn't too bad, but it could be better, but in the right light and right size room it's perfect. Still a few kinks they need to work out, but it's new tech so they'll get a pass.

Just as long as its not mandatory to use I won't care. As long as I don't have to have one of these intrusive sounding things hooked up to use the new xbox I would be happy. Call me paranoid, but I really don't want a little camera that can read my lips and tell my moods being hooked up to the internet and in my living room . Who knows what Microsoft is recording and sending back to their HQ for marketing or other creepy reasons, its just to big brotherish for me.

Right now, I don't care much for Kinect or motion sensing gaming in general. However, I do think this could be the first steps to something great, just the technology needs to be perfected. I'd put my money on this over 3D.

Eurogamer has a good idea of improving the controls of kinetic, But due to different emotions of players in time of gaming especially when you're eager to win the game and have a difficulty. and can this have a big effect in a sensory way of controlling the game.
What is the pros and cons of this update, Can it easily adopt by gamers?

I disagree, Skyward Sword makes me want more motion control games, they can be just so epic and immersive. The only thing though is they need a lot of work and care put into them otherwise we'll get a bunch of bad gimmicky games.
I think once they allow for advance finger tracking kinect then will be powerful enough to handle more sophisticated games.

I don't have a Kinect but all I know is the new Xbox better be able to play 360 games

I love it, I wanted kinect on my PC not for games..
but AI UI... I want it know what I want to open....
I want it to write things for me..... I want it to talk to me...
I WANT TO PROGRAM IT so it will response in weird ways when other people are using my computer....

I like to think that with Kinect 2 being able to read lips, we'll be able to see more people introduced to a part of what Kinect has been trying to provide. Take a deaf person for instance; some understand and can read lips as well as give that back to you, but can't actually fully vocalize their words because they've never actually heard them to know what it should sound like, with the movement of the tongue. Say Kinect 2 could read their lips, and a software could spit out on the other end what it is their trying to say. Now that person has a way to communicate in a multi-player atmosphere. It may be one sided, but it's a start. Not to mention if the motions could be so exact to be able to pick up sign language. As for the facial recognition, finally my 360 will know when to give me break before I throw the controller at it.

All my Kinect has been doing is staring at me every time I start my 360 up and collecting dust, I have been eagerly waiting for a game for use hardcore 360 gamers not Disney world Kinect!!
If they release a new Kinect they better give the 1st gens an update or some type of fair trade-in.
:O

Wait, what about everyone who bought the first kinect? no software update, we just bought a crap piece hoping it would be good? i call bs on that. thats dirty microsoft. extra dirty.

This is probably more like the Kinect they originally envisioned. Remember that they dropped on-board firmware processing for shunting that work to the OS software to save $.

No one noticed, "Next xbox," in the article?

Oh, and sorry for the double post, but the announcement and subsequent release of Kinect, and now this, may be why we're not even seeing anything of the next Half-Life game yet. They've probably had their hands full with hand gestures and whatnot.

This brings one thing to mind, and makes me very excited:
Gabe Newell confirmed (before the initial announcement of Kinect, I believe) that the next Half-Life game will involve sign language in some way and will be accessible to deaf gamers. It would be excellent if you could communicate in some way and if non-deaf players could learn some sign language that way. And most importantly, Gordon Freeman could remain silent xD
