Leading gamer network Raptr released some data proving that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 managed to dominate the first-person shooter market over Battlefield 3. Based on data measured across its 10-million-member gamer network, their users logged an average of 40% more playtime in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 over Battlefield 3 on their respective launch days.

“The battle for dominance for the first-person shooter market in 2011 is clearly in Activision’s favor,” said Dennis Fong, CEO of Raptr. “EA made a valiant effort evangelizing its fan base and generating massive support around the launch of Battlefield 3. Given how well received the game was, EA has a powerful opportunity to take things further next year, though it’s clear at this point that Call of Duty is a phenomenon that is unrivaled.”
However, even though CoD might be king of how much time users logged, the data also shows that four out of five users stated a preference for Battlefield over MW3. They also found that 92% of their respondents consider DICE a more innovative developer than CoD's Infinity Ward. 58% of the surveyors also believed that Battlefield franchise as a whole had a bigger impact on the FPS genre than CoD.
