The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has only been out since Friday, but according to Zenimax, seven million copies of the RPG have already shipped, and the launch is expected to generate more than $450 million in global retail sales. You can practically hear the champagne corks popping from here.
More than half of the launch units were sold in the first 48 hours after release, and Bethesda Softworks says it has been "receiving large reorders from major retailers in North America, and across Europe and Australia."
On Steam, Skyrim set a record with over 280,000 concurrent players in its first 48 hours of release.
“We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media. “Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides.”

The EB Games near me had more people show up for the Skyrim midnight launch than they got for the MW3 midnight launch. I'm glad this game is getting the attention it deserves.
