While the Call of Duty Elite launch continues to struggle, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has had a relatively functional and painless since it hit stores last week. Or has it? A 14-page thread on Xbox.com points to multiple Xbox 360 gamers getting similar disc read errors from the game.
The reported issues all follow a similar theme: the console either doesn't read the disc from the get-go or boots up the game for a brief period only to crash soon after. Multiple solutions have been suggested, but based on the responses there doesn't seem to be a surefire fix.
Personally, I've put upwards of 40 hours into the game now myself and never seen this issue crop up. It sounds like this might be a disc-specific issue, however. Some users are seeing the same disc have the same problem across multiple consoles, which is typically an indication of fouled-up software rather than failing hardware.
If you're a recent MW3 purchaser and are seeing this issue, I'd suggest heading back to the store and swapping for another copy of the game to see if the problem goes away. We've reached out to Activision for comment and will update this story accordingly if there's any response.
