In the ongoing list of Xbox 720 rumors, a new one has landed on our desk predicting that the Xbox 720 release date will be sometime next holiday season. Technology reporter Paul Thurrott seems to think so, saying in the Windows Weekly video show that Microsoft's next system, codenamed "The Loop" will be out in time for the holidays next year.
"What I’m hearing is [the next Xbox is] going to come out for holidays next year, meaning that they would almost have to announce this at CES, wouldn’t they? That’s my rumor… that we’ll expect to hear something about that. They’re going the Apple route where they want this thing to integrate very tightly with Windows 8 and Windows Phone, which is a problem with the current Xbox.”
CES is the Consumer Electronics Show that's held each January in Las Vegas. Normally game companies hold their big announcements for E3, but as Microsoft may be planning to push their other products at the show it might make sense for them to reveal their new console as well.
As we learned last week, the Xbox 720 is rumored to be based on Windows 9 and ARM processing architecture. We'll just have to see if any of this comes true in January, but it's fun to speculate in the meantime.

Do. Not. Want.
1) What would this console do, or need to do, that our current generation doesn't?
2) Who wants this console (because the vast majority of 360 owners I know are pretty happy with their current console--and don't want to shell out another couple hundred for a new console.)?
3) Do we really need new hardware now? (No.)

Well what WON'T the new console have? No backward comparability, no ring of death (they hope) and no plethora of games like this year. What is the one thing the 720 will definitely have...fanboys.

i think a 2013 or 2014 release would be better, holiday 2012 seems a little to early to me.
Greater_than_3
personally i don't think it they're going to announce it, there's a lot of top contending 360 titles coming out next holiday season with halo 4 being one of them, microsoft will never screw over something like that
freedomhero117
this is the longest generation of consoles in video game history the 360 is now starting to look like its age we will have new consoles by the end of 2013 or 2014 when ever sony plans to release the PS4 which looks like late 2014 cause the PS3 is just now starting to sell close to par with the 360 and the graphics will hold up for a few more years now with the wii sales down the tube the Wii U will be out in next 6 months most likely so i cant wait to see what happens

That's great and all since I have been wanting a new Xbox but it had better "integrate" with Windows 7 also.

What i do not understand, is how can this Xbox be based on Windows 9 when Windows 8 is not even done or out yet? That's where to me, this rumor is nothing more than a fake.

If the rumors are true that the console will be smaller and even cheaper than the current Xbox 360 price, I will embrace this console with open arms.

i see it coming out a little later. there are alot of games scheduled do come out in 2012 and i don't think microsoft will want to screw them over. i'm hoping for 2013 just in time for GTA

Maybe it is very good the Star Wars console got delayed. Would have been extremely PISSED if I would have spent $450 just to see it negated in less than a year. Now to convince my son of that fact....
