In the ongoing list of Xbox 720 rumors, a new one has landed on our desk predicting that the Xbox 720 release date will be sometime next holiday season. Technology reporter Paul Thurrott seems to think so, saying in the Windows Weekly video show that Microsoft's next system, codenamed "The Loop" will be out in time for the holidays next year.
"What I’m hearing is [the next Xbox is] going to come out for holidays next year, meaning that they would almost have to announce this at CES, wouldn’t they? That’s my rumor… that we’ll expect to hear something about that. They’re going the Apple route where they want this thing to integrate very tightly with Windows 8 and Windows Phone, which is a problem with the current Xbox.”
CES is the Consumer Electronics Show that's held each January in Las Vegas. Normally game companies hold their big announcements for E3, but as Microsoft may be planning to push their other products at the show it might make sense for them to reveal their new console as well.
As we learned last week, the Xbox 720 is rumored to be based on Windows 9 and ARM processing architecture. We'll just have to see if any of this comes true in January, but it's fun to speculate in the meantime.

It's Great that they want to make a system that does Everything and can replace a DVR, but considering that they couldn't even get the 360 to play games and movies without system failure! Why Not spend this Next Gen of consoles to get gaming Right First! Cause lets face it, Yeah they probably will make a system that does everything but can it handle the it? I think Not! It will be Crap just like the 360's with the 3 red rings just on a bigger scale!

Too soon to start releasing new consoles. They're still working on fixing all the problems on the 360.

i phone 400 to 600 $ good for like 6 months to a year till they have a better verision xbox 360 still running 6 + years now its time ..... Make the Push im tired of just map packs and games are getting to big for last gen Look At Battlefield 3 looks like crap on consoles but on pc's amazing its like wii vs 360 and ps3 just not gonna happen ... lol these guys are just happy with add ons and map packs . Do the math guys its time look at the tech specs and look at what we got now the tech in the xbox 360 is over 7 years old takes like 2 or 3 years to get it right then you put it in the consoles ..... get your head out of your a--es

That would be a terribly stupid idea for Microsoft. Why would they release a new console around the same time as their biggest franchise's next installment (Halo 4). That would be stupid.
My prediction, is that the next Xbox will be revealed at E3 2012, and have a release the Holiday of 2013. Still plenty of life in this generation.

for all those saying that the its too soon... just remember that the 360 was launched at the end of november 2005... which means it's now over 6 years old... thats a long long time for a console... heck... its two more years than there was between the original and it...
if you're looking at generations of consoles then it definitely is far beyond time for a new xbox...

I agree with Luffy, I just bought the 360 last year for my grandson, and this year for another grandson. I would hate to think these are going to be out of date in one year! I hope they wait just a little longer, because I know the kids will hit Grandma up for the new one!

Noooo..... Really the us is still in a bad recession and really I have to much $ invested in xbox and ps3 really with the direct and my 8 controllers and did I forget I have a 2nd xbox and wii so over $3000k in games consoles and accesoiers

I don't think xbox will release a new system till at least 2014 because developers still want to try and use the kinect same with playstation and the move and don't forget last year at e3 at the end of the Microsoft pressconfernce they said the new halo trilogy will be comeing to xbox 360 so I would once the last of those halos comes out they will have the next xbox ready to launch

Honestly do we need another next Gen Console right now? The Play Station 3 and X -Box 360 have the best games and the graphics ever for video games,honestly I think they Play Station 4 will out sell the X Box 720,I just know that Sony will be first place over the X-Box 720 and I bet the X-Box 720 will have massive bugs in the console just like the crappy X-Box 360 because knowing that microsoft will never fix the bugs in the X-Box 360 and the fact that microsoft makes people to play online which is wrong ,because microsoft only cares about milking every cent out of their customers of so much money out of their customers that pay to play online.

I don't think so. All the things said in the last rumor mill round-up seemed to make a lot of sense. With the release dates further ahead. Thinking about all the really big games coming out around now, either their trying to send this generation out with a bang, or their going to wait and allow people to enjoy all these titles. That bit with the Real Steel commercial makes me think too. Would they have had to consult Microsoft before giving their next system a name or can they just throw it out there since MS hasn't said anything concrete just yet?

how is this true? isn't halo 4 coming out next year? if it is true then halo 4 is a launch title...but its wwwaaayyyy too soon for a new sytem...they are putting youtube and bing on xbox live and turn around and say " o by the way we r launching a new system next year so all of this stuff we are putting on xbox live is irrelevant so enjoy it for a year." no way they are launching a new system next year maybe 2013...where do they get these rumors from anyways? a 8yrold redheaded step child they found on the street?

I can in no way say for sure, BUT I do believe that Microsoft will do exactly what they did with the xbox when the Xbox 360 came out. They'll basically stop all support and development for it fairly soon after the release of the new console. They will probably keep live up for a year or so on the 360 before shutting it down and requiring people to change consoles for online play.
OR they may do what Sony did with the PS2/PS3 and support the 360 for several more years with multiplatform games (like COD, madden and movie licensed games) until they feel they've built up a large enough system base that they can phase it out, with minimal outcry/backlash from the community. Either way, there will obviously be shortages when the console comes out, which will leave people who can't get one feeling left out, and even more so if M$ decides to cut and run.
