This news should not surprise you if you have even a passing interest in video games, but Activision confirmed yesterday that the next Call of Duty game is planned for release in 2012.
"As we focus on 2012, we have a strong product pipeline which features a minimum of two highly-anticipated new titles from Blizzard Entertainment, including Diablo III, and a new Call of Duty game from Activision Publishing," Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said in a statement that went along with the company's quarterly financial statement.
There is no word yet on what the game will be sub-titled or any other details, but if I were you, I'd expect a first-person military shooter that focuses on dialed in multiplayer. Based on previous release schedule, it probably won't be called "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4." Instead, it will be more like "Call of Duty: INSERT NAME," but these details are just speculation, of course.
In further quarterly financial statement news, Activision reported quarterly revenues of $754 million, up 16 percent from $650 million for the same period the year before. The publisher also posted a net profit of $148 million for the quarter, up year-over-year from $51 million.

Call of Duty is just boring. It is the same old stuff. I want vehicles and a return to World War 2.

@Treyarch:
(For next year) Please do either of the following 2:
+ [CoD] Zombie Warfare
(A full-on zombie game, with actual, quality plot, not just a mode)
+ [CoD] Alternate History Warfare
(Because everyone knows Activision & Respawn are still entangled in their legal battle, and the Time Period is part of Respawn's conditions; Plus it would be refreshing to actually see something DIFFERENT this time. [North Koreans, the Chinese, or someone entirely NEW, as the opposing force] )
Make it happen, guys! =D

@Sledgehammer:
Please continue your original project on a 3rd-Person, Action-Adventure CoD; we'd actually like to see something different & refreshing for a change.

I guess Mass Effect 3 isn't a highly anticipated game for 2012

I refuse to believe that it is highly anticipated.

with the way MW3 ended and the name of the achievement ("End of the line") i doubt there's going to be a MW4. I think there will be a new call of duty sub-series for Infinity ward after this.

If everything goes like it has the last few years, Treyarch will probably make the next one. IW and Treyarch have switched of since I could remember. Call of Duty is now something to be expected every year, and I don't mind that. Every year it gets better and better. Hopefully Treyarch steps their game up and makes another good game (maybe something with another past war like they have been doing). The most we can do is wait and see.

Might as well call it Call of Duty 2012.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE!
Here is the MW4 Review on G4:
"You didn't need me to tell you that this game is awesome, but it is all the same. If you're a fan, you will continue to be. If you're not, maybe it's time you boarded the hype train. Modern Warfare 4 is a stellar experience, continuing Call of Duty's six-year reign as the premiere multiplayer FPS experience."

You have to remember that this is Activision making this game, not Infinity Ward. So they have had 2 years to make this game not 1. They are just using the title because it's an easier way to sell. They are 2 different developers using the same title.

Now do you Guys believe it's a Copy and Paste game?

Exactly the reason why I didn't buy MW3. Its becoming Madden or NCAA. They tweak a few things here and there but those tweaks are pretty small compared to the grand scheme. Which this COD grand scheme has be recycled and reused for about the last 4 years now. I'm not going to support that kind of a business plan. Games need to take time and effort to bring something new besides guns and maps. I like to think of Guild Wars 2 which has been in production for at least 4 years if not longer. They understand that a game must take time to really change things.
