During an investor call today, Take Two announced that sci-fi based shooter XCOM has been delayed until fiscal 2013. The last date we heard for XCOM was March 6, 2012, meaning that the game has been delayed at least a year, possibly longer.
No reason was given for the change in schedule, but I've put a call in to 2K to ask why. I'll update this when/if I hear back.

who cares if it's not like the old ones? It looks great and fun. The different missions will add some replay value and i like the strategy. Turn based strategy games are just not that good anymore thats why they changed it.

2013? Gonna need a better engine by then... going to be very outdated and old school by then, the way the developers are pushing the envelopes already.

if they delay that long the game will be far to dated, better to just cancel it now or release as digital only at a reduced price.

If anything, the game almost reminds me of a cross of Valkyria Chronicles and Mass Effect. The idea of a strategy game with some elements of a shooter, and the squad management from Mass Effect. It's an interesting combo, and the fact that research is still a big part of the experience, it doesn't seem like a bad idea at all.
But again, I don't think the game is entirely ready yet. The vids look interesting, but not necessarily exciting. I would love to see a new X-Com title, but if it does nothing to excite, then it's not going to work for me.

I think it's a good call, none of what has been shown in videos have looked exciting at all. They should have gone the route of the previous games.
If 2K tries to make an 3D shooter it has to be on par with other shooter and live up to earlier X-com titles strategic element, kinda difficult.

I really liked the direction they were going in with this game. To bad the release date has moved. Hopefully it doesn't move again.

I would rather have a delayed game that comes out good (hopefully, cause I have my doubts about XCOM). Then developers releasing some half finished shlock like a few of them are doing now.

"Fiscal 2013" spans April 2012 - March 2013. The game has only been delayed between a month and a year, so I would recommend editing this currently VERY misleading article.

Couldn't they wait until 2012 to announce that the game's been delayed until 2013? I can just imagine an XCOM fan crying in a corner on New Year's. But they said "fiscal 2013", which is the range from April 2012 to March 2013, so it's really been delayed just 1-12 months.
