While the plot details of the single-player campaign for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 aren't exactly top-secret (there have been very detailed accounts of its plot online since May, and the game has been in players hands since at least last week), officially, we don't know how the game's story will progress, but we can say this: Don't expect "No Russian" style controversy, and don't expect a crap-storm of outraged reaction from the non-gaming press to the game's release.
While Modern Warfare 3 starts with a disclaimer warning that some of the content could be disturbing, and there are certainly some distressing scenes in a story that features widespread technological destruction, there's nothing in the game's plot or action that seems likely to push the "controversy!" button of the mainstream press, so don't expect any Fox News diatribes in the next week or so... at least, that's how it seems to us.
The developers of MW 3 were obviously aware of the potential pitfalls of gratuitous outrageous content, as evidenced by a recent interview with Sledgehammer Games creative director Bret Robbins in Venture Beat.
"It's not a matter of trying to be gratuitous about it, doing shocks for shock value," Robbins said. "You always want to push yourself and see if you can push the limits of the medium, and storytelling. We’ve got such a big audience for this game that we want to deliver something that’s memorable. Experiences that people are going to be talking about the next day after they played it, talking about with their friends. It’s really a matter of creating something unique."

Holy Crap
It blows my mind that there are people on here that have a brain and can think for themselves. I agree with all of the comments so far. The part about fighting games from General was spot on. Games are all becoming made for the mindless masses.
You couldn't pay me to play this game. I am missing the days of Halo2 more and more. I give this game 3 days online before someone learns how to mod it. Let the cheating begin.

Easy, noobish, games make money. Hard, quality, games get left on the shelf. that's why fighting games dont push 10M copies, because they are hard to be good at them. And thats why games that were once good are becoming COD (ie. Halo: Reach, what a let down, please bring back Halo 2). Besides it's all about money and not offending people.

LAME.
I really think that Activision missed a huge opportunity by not including a level where you play through the assault on Bin Laden's compound. It would be topical. it would be controversial. IT WOULD BE AWESOME.

They should not even rate MW3 for the fact that it is the exact same game every year with a new campaign and some "fresh" online features. The graphics are so COD4 and the concept is being ran into the ground. Game company's need to come up with a new fresh idea for FPS games and fast, the platform is being ran into the ground. This is one im not picking up, instead i will be getting Skyrim for PC. Side note and a funny one....all you COD fans are going to try to make me seem like i don't know what im talking about but i've been playing COD since the first game and also been gaming for over 20+ years and i know a good game when i see one AND this is not going to be a good game. so have fun downgrading this comment all you want or bashing my comment, because i sure don't give a d@mn.

But can we expect a 5 out of 5 rating from G4 for MW3 and no criticism of its short single-player campaign?
