It's the Friday before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 hits stores, and you know what that means: gamers everywhere are in search of stores willing to break the game's November 8 street date. There's been some success in that regard this year, which prompted Microsoft's Xbox Live policy gury Stephen Toulouse to tweet yesterday that "If your copy is legit... have fun."
Only Toulouse was wrong. He checked in with Activision and later sent out a clarification. The publisher does not authorize pre-release play. No specific penalties are mentioned, but Toulouse notes that "Playing early may impact your account!"
A more likely scenario is that Infinity Ward will hit a "panic button" on launch day to zero out all of the multiplayer stats. Even more likely than that, I think, is the possibility that there will be no repercussions at all. There weren't for Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops. Why start now?

early releases won't be a problem if they separated the elites from the noobs. playing BF3 now and getting my butt kicked by 35s. its only been a week or so. what do they do play around the clock or what

really? so what was the point of preordering? having launch dates? why do i have to stay up all freaking night know i have to be up at 0500 in the morning while these POS getting to smooth talking their nerdy friends into letting them start early...... I say ban them, more then ban the accounts, ban their discs....

well i live in PA. And the Kmart stores around here are selling MW3. They apparently got the game and it said sell immediately. of course they did and sold out immediately. Store associates said they would be getting there next shipment for Monday and it would be sold again Monday morning at 8a.m. now i don't believe its right that people got it and can get it earlier but it happens. And if your going to get in trouble for playing it i think its a load of crap. If it was legally sold to you , you shouldn't get in trouble the store should. like what if someone bought it for you like a family member or significant other as a gift and you played it and got your account ban. how is that anyone's fault. IDK. as for me i pre-ordered mine so i must wait >:I

Yea, people said they would reset stats for everyone and punish players who stole MW2 and played online pre-release, they didn't do anything then, they aren't gonna do anything now.

You know this massively popular fps that has a huge fan base, and we are charging over 60 dollars for?! You know, like, one fourth of the value of the console that our fanbase is playing it on?! That being before the 4-10 ten dollar "DLC"s that they will have to buy if they want to keep up with other players?
Here's the thing. We have a few fans out there who LOVE us and LOVE our game SO MUCH that they are driving all over town, and even all over the country to find it, and even paying extra, under the table, to get a copy ahead of its release date, just so they can play it early.
So here is what we are going to do, for these special fans who are willing to literally go the extra mile, jump through hoops, and go through great inconvenience, just to get in and play our game a few days early, we need to go the extra mile to just dump on these people. We have to talk down to them, nerf the game, treat them like pirating scum, invalidate any accomplishments they make before release date, and maybe even brand them with a scarlet letter so everyone knows how worthless they are!
