For the second time in the series' history, Square-Enix is prepping a direct sequel to one of its Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set after the events of the March 2010 release, and the game will open with a recap of events to bring players up to speed. Details are limited, but a recent FFXIII-2 preview revealed that the upcoming game will make use of FFXIII save data to inform that recap.
The news comes from Japanese language site Impress Watch (via Siliconera), which reveals that the recap will unfold as "digest scenes with different characters narrating." The preview also reveals that you'll be doing a lot of business in the game with a time traveling merchant named Chocolina, a completely ridiculous name. You'll meet Chocolina and the rest of the FFXIII-2 cast when the game launches next year on January 31.
