According to Electronic Arts, war-torn FPS Battlefield 3 has sold more than 5 million copies in its first week of release. Bolstered by very positive review scores and tons of word-of-mouth, BF3 is EA's fastest selling game of all time, according to the company. In celebration, here's a few brand new screenshots from Battlefield 3's Back to Karkand DLC for your eyes to look at and gaze upon and otherwise enjoy.
“From Tokyo to Los Angeles, Sydney to London, millions of fans have been playing all weekend long -- we are overwhelmed by the global response to Battlefield 3,” said Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of the EA Games Label. “It is extremely gratifying to deliver an entertainment experience that delights our fans, and to have the opportunity to introduce new people to the franchise. Already, we are seeing unprecedented play times and online activity which is very rewarding. This launch solidifies Battlefield as a leading entertainment brand.”
EA's is very proud of these other milestones as well:
- 2.5 Million Facebook “likes” with hundreds of thousands of fans actively engaged
- Over 200K followers on Twitter
- Battlefield 3 fans executed 73M savior kills, 48M revives and destroyed 67M vehicles
Which is all well and good... but soon, BF3's real test will come: November 8 marks the release date for Modern Warfare 3.

who cares Skyrim will probley sell more than mw3 plus it has a lot bigger fan base than wow and cod games. I know tons of people who are not buying mw3 just because of skyrim. Skyrim will probley be the game of the year for almost all gamers.

This game was badass fun multiplayer to the story plus its a realistic shooter that demands team work to win matches. plus the ranking system was ok. It reminds me of rainbow 6 games plus the sniping is badass.

gotta say, i was gunna get BF3, but cancelled my pre order after the Beta. just too much about it i didnt like. (and im not talking about bugs, im talking about actual game play stuff)...that said, BFBC2 was the only modern FPS ive ever played, so i dont plan on buying CoD either. just saying i didnt enjoy BF3, and am hoping BC3 catches my attention.

Thats gud for Battlefield 3 but so tired of people saying this game is better then this 1 the makers put alot of work into making them if cod sells more so what gud for them all games are sweet.

EA did what they set out to do.. hype an average game then cash in on it. I was TOTALLY disappointed with the multi player and the campaign is barely average. Will i get BF4 if and when it comes out? HELL NO!

I just read the Kotaku review about the problems connecting both on consoles and on the PC. Looks like this won't be a buy for me until I start reading about these issues being fixed. My last two purchased titles had problems : Driver San Francisco and Rage PC. Very disenchanted right now with the quality of gaming titles which are being released. No pre-orders for me anymore!

Did not like this game. It wanted to be CoD way too much. Most of the time your shooting into bright diffused lights or the sun. Has more lens flare than the last Starr Trek movie. That windscreen effect is just maddening. The Multiplayer is decent enough but the campaign is garbage.

And what's scary is that EA has said that SWTOR badly outsold BF3 in terms of preorders. How stupid is SWTOR's release going to be?

While this is great sales numbers for the game, we cant be blind to reality. MW3 will sell 5m on day 1 alone. Dont get me wrong i love the game and glad i bought it but I mean there is a huge difference beteween loving something and loving it so much that you are blind to reality.

Why would you be disappointed if something did not sell so many copies? Who cares it isn't a pissing contest. As for someone saying "I hate to be the one" STFU with your captain obvious comment. Why hate on a game just because you don't play it? Oh that is simple...it is because you suck at life and are only good at making cynical comments online and not in person.

I was one of the 5 million who bought this great game but lets face it. MW3 will sell 5 million just on the 360 and just in America the first week. There are already 2.4 million preorders for the 360 in the US since last Friday. BLOPs sold 4 million on the 360 the first week in America and 5.8 million worldwide. All together I am predicting about 12 million on all platforms the first week worldwide.

I'm sorry but i have to be that one person that will say CoD will sell more, don't get me wrong BF3 is a great game, but mw3 has a bigger fan base.... so i think MW3 will sell 5 million in probably a couple hourse or 2days.

im glad that this game is selling really well. This show that there are games out there that can contend with COD and also shows that waiting till late into the year to release a game is not always a good idea.
